If you're a regular visitor the The Sports Rockers, and we hope that you are, you might have noticed our recent fascination with Auburn head coach Gene Chizik. The Chiz is undoubtedly on the hot seat at Auburn. I said on twitter last week that he might not make it to this week if he loses to Vanderbilt. Well, they lost to Vanderbilt. And Chizik is still coaching.
So what's the next deadline?
Well, I'm going to stop speculating on when Chizik will get canned. But this weekend will determine a whole lot.
One of the worst teams in the country comes to Auburn. Say hello to New Mexico State. Not only are the Aggies one of the worst teams in the country, they're one of the worst programs in the country. The Aggies last season of .500 or better was in 2002. They Aggies are so historically bad, they have had only four seasons since 1971 where they have finished .500 or better.
As for Auburn and Chizik, true freshman Jonathan Wallace will be starting this weekend. He was originally the third string quarterback. If Chizik wasn't feeling the heat, Frazier Kiehl would still be starting, and he's been absolutely awful.
If Chizik loses to New Mexico State, there's no way Auburn can bring him back without an uproar of magnanimous proportions for the Auburn faithful.
Personally, I'm pulling for New Mexico State this weekend. Yes, my motives are selfish. The twitter meltdown would be of epic proportions.
