AJ McCarron and Alabama continue to be a fixture on top. Photo: USA Today Sports After a week of some important game sin the BCS championship picture we are beginning to see a bit more clearly how things are going to work out coming down the final stretch of the regular season. As usual, our staff submitted our top 10 this week and they have been combined to form our weekly power rankings. As you might have expected, our top two is pretty obvious. 1. Alabama (89 points, 8 first-place votes) Following a thorough defeat of LSU this weekend, the staff feels pretty confident in saying Alabama remains the team to beat this season. The Crimson Tide pulled in all but one first-place vote from our staff this week to reassert their position on top of our power rankings after Florida State created a bit of a split last week. Alabama has been on top of our weekly power rankings since we debuted them at the beginning of October and until they force us to drop them it looks as though they ...

The 2013 Heisman Watch got a whole lot closer in week 11 thanks to Oregon’s loss to Stanford. Was it enough to knock Marcus Mariota off his first place pedestal?  Here’s my updated top 5: 5. A.J. McCarron, Alabama: The senior quarterback silenced his haters and doubters on Saturday night, rolling the Crimson Tide to a 38-17 victory over no. 13 LSU. The Tigers put up a fight...

A.J. McCarron cleans up the streets, helps girl out of trashcan

First he snuffed out the LSU Tigers, then Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron (with some help from Katherine Webb) assisted a fan who had fallen in a trashcan.

Former Alabama QB Miller remembered on Veterans Day

With all the renewed Heisman chatter surrounding AJ McCarron after the senior led unbeaten Alabama to another victory over LSU, it is good to remember that the Crimson Tide have had plenty of great quarterbacks over the years. Joe Namath and Kenny Stabler are probably the most famous, but the Crimson Tide also produced Pat Trammell, Steve Sloan and Richard Todd, all outstanding...

Covering Dixie Like Mildew - It's the SEC's world. Deal with it.  There's a possibility, but no chance. Nathan Rush gives "10 Reasons Why Nick Saban Will Be the Next Coach At Texas." Alabama wins big in SEC showdown

Facing an opponent that had no intention of backing down, top-ranked Alabama responded with a strong second-half in which they gave LSU the fight they were looking for, winning the matchup of SEC powers 38-17 while staying perfect in the process. The Tigers enjoyed their only lead of the game in the second quarter when Jeremy Hill put LSU up 7-3 on a three-yard touchdown run, but...

Wall Street Journal columnist tired of Alabama, openly roots for Auburn.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban with QB A.J. McCarron. Wall Street Journal sports columnist Rachel Bachman is tired of Alabama and its winning ways.  Bachman recently wrote an "open letter" to Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn calling him and the Tigers "Our Last Chance" to stop a third consecutive Crimson Tide BCS title. Bachman describes Alabama...

Georgia QB Murray dating model?

There must be an unwritten rule that if you're an SEC quarterback, you must date an aspiring model. It appears as though Georgia's Aaron Murray is following in the footsteps of Alabama's AJ McCarron and Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel in that regard, based on a recent Instagram post: "So excited this girl got to make her first trip to Athens this weekend @kaciemcdonnell...

Heisman Trophy Watch (Week 12)

1. AJ McCarron (Alabama)  AJ McCarron was simply amazing last night versus the LSU Tigers in a much heated rivalry game. McCarron had his small sample  Heisman moment against the Bayou Bengals with three touchdown passes and 179 yards with no turnovers. AJ is the best big game quarterback in college football and will continue his campaign at Mississippi St in Starksville next weekend...

2014 Heisman Trophy: Give the Award to Winston

The quest for the Heisman Trophy is officially a two-man race.I had hoped AJ McCarron would do something magical Saturday night, have a Heisman moment and jump into the picture for the trophy, but that did not happen. All McCarron did was lead a very good Alabama program over a mismatched LSU team that hung around for 35 minutes in the game Saturday night, then saw the wheels come...

Lundquist doesn't pull a Musburger

Verne Lundquist's calm, even voice is a hallmark of CBS broadcasts, his familiar tone reminding folks back home that CBS is supposed to be a classy network. Classy networks don't use four-letter words on-air -- and in the case of Lundquist, who apparently can make a good joke when called upon, his stable of four-letter words includes the acronym for one behemoth sports network...

Covering Dixie: Nick Saban, A.J. McCarron, Johnny Manziel, and more.

Covering Dixie Like Mildew - The SEC. All your crystal football are belong to us. Don't Blink. With a win against LSU out of the way, Alabama head coach Nick Saban is trying to avoid a BCS-jeopardizing loss Week 12 to Mississippi State similar to last season's loss to Texas A&M that occurred the week after beating LSU. (ESPN) I have to praise you like...

Katherine Webb Identified on CBS Broadcast by Verne Lundqvist, Who Makes Point Not to Pull a Brent Musburger (Video)

Verne Lundqvist’s calm, even voice is a hallmark of CBS broadcasts, his familiar tone reminding folks back home that CBS is supposed to be a classy station. Classy stations don’t use four-letter words on-air — and in the case of Lundqvist, who apparently can make a good joke when called upon, his stable of four-letter words includes the acronym for one behemoth sports network...

With another week down, it is time to take a look at just who stood out in the weekend's best SEC matches. As a new week begins to form, here is a look back at just who topped the charts and made the headlines on Saturday.   The AJ McCarron and TJ Yeldon combo: Power. Pure power. Tide Gets A Kick From Saban’s Leap

Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron wanted to play it down. Crimson Tide wide receiver Kevin Norwood said he had never seen his coach so excited. That coach, Nick Saban, said it was all about the team. One of the Alabama sportswriters dubbed it Bama’s “Hallmark moment.”
