When it comes college football coaches, Missouri's Gary Pinkel comes off as one of the sport's more milquetoast personalities. I always picture him tooling around Columbia in a Chevy SUV, driving a couple miles an hour under the speed limit and grooving to an "office rock" radio station (Sheryl Crow, Hootie and the Blowfish, Blues Traveler, etc.) or maybe a Steely Dan CD. So you can imagine my surprise when I saw that College Football's Least Interesting Man hadn't pulled up at the school of celebrated recruit Dorial Green-Beckham in a Silverado. Instead, Pinkel showed up at in a helicopter, Tom Selleck-style. (Dave Yost, Mizzou's offensive coordinator and certified bro, clearly loves playing Higgins to Pinkel's Magnum.) The prep wide receiver known in recruiting circles as "DGB" tends to get otherwise mild-mannered people – fans and coaches alike – busting out the swaggiest of their swag to win his affection. Such is life when you're the best pass-catching prospect since Randy Moss. With less than two weeks to go until National Signing Day, Pinkel is just one of the notable coaches pitching his program to the most coveted recruit in the country. Even though the smart money is on the consensus national high school player of the year signing with Arkansas, it hasn't stopped the likes of Oklahoma and Texas from beating a path to his home in Springfield, Mo., lately. With Mack Brown expected to show up at some point in the next few days, Texas' head coach seems like the best candidate to try and upstage Pinkel's helicopter stunt. Consider the gauntlet thrown, Coach Brown. [follow]
