Found November 22, 2011 on The Duck Stops Here:
The Heisman race is as muddled as the BCS standings. Major candidates all have a slip-up on their resume, so there's no clear cut winner.  No Oregon Duck has ever won a Heisman, (though the Beavers have one, Terry Baker in 1963) and the Ducks are going to miss the plane to New York this year as well. LaMichael James was among the preseason favorites, but an injury and subpar games against LSU and USC sunk his chances. He'd need two miracle games against OSU and in the PAC-12 Championship Game even to get back into the conversation, and even then it's probably too late. Photo left: The bronze Heisman statue was modeled after New York University football player Ed Smith back in the 1930's, but if they ever update it, the best stiffarm in the history of the game had to belong to Jeremiah Johnson. Just ask the OSU Beavers. De'Anthony Thomas is a year or two away from being a serious candidate, but if there were a freshman Heisman or equivalent award, he'd be...

Badgers aim for Big Ten championship

MADISON, Wis. When Wisconsin's 2011 college football schedule was released a little more than a year ago, Badgers coach Bret Bielema kept a mental note of what might transpire over Thanksgiving weekend. And it had nothing to do with turkey or stuffing. With Wisconsin slated to play host to Penn State and both teams part of the newly formed Leaders Division in the Big Ten,...

5 Things I Learned About College Football – Week 12 Review

Chaos reigns!  Two really-not-so-surprising upsets highlighted the weekend.  In Ames, IA (Iowa State beating then-No. 2 Oklahoma State) and in Eugene, OR (USC stomping Oregon) has put three SEC teams in the top slots in the BCS poll…LSU, Alabama and, yes, friends…like I’ve been saying since pre-season, Arkansas.  What a weekend… Oklahoma State kicker Quinn Sharp reacts...

USC linebacker wipes his butt on Oregon's LaMichael James

Threw the first three quarters or so, the Matt Barkley and his USC Trojans were metaphorically wiping their collective tails with the #4 ranked Oregon Ducks. The Ducks made it close, but eventually lost 38-35. With under a minute in the first half, LaMichael James took a hand-off up the middle and was tackled by USC linebacker Dion Bailey.  Bailey then proceeded to sit on James...

The Doak Walker Award: Projecting the Finalist

Later this afternoon, the Doak Walker Award finalists will be announced. As I have done the last two weeks in breaking down each semifinalist, today I do the same as well as make a projection of who I feel should be the three remaining finalist for this prestigious award. Following this weekend, one player in my eyes made a huge jump, and now resides atop my list. Here are the...

B1G Week 13 Preview

The end of the season is near and so is Thanksgiving.  Time to be thankful for a few things and get ready for some rival games.  First thing I have to be thankful for is You Tube.  I don’t know how many times I have had the Lee Corso over excited moment from last week sent to me.  I laugh every time I watch it though. I’m not going to apologize for that.  Next I have to...
