You may not know much about No. 15 seed Florida Gulf Coast, and that probably won’t change unless they pull off an unthinkable upset by defeating No. 2 seed Georgetown in the NCAA Tournament. By the end of the week, however, you will probably have seen or heard something about the better half of Florida Gulf Coast coach Andy Enfield. Enfield is married to Amanda Marcum, who is a former model with a resume that includes publications like Maxim, Vogue, Elle and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Marcum, who is now Amanda Enfield, is currently a stay-at-home mom to hers and Andy’s two daughters and son. According to NaplesNews.com, Andy and Amanda met in 2003 at a second round NCAA Tournament game in Boston where Oklahoma State was playing. Having grown up in a small Oklahoma town with a population of 13,000 people, Marcum became a huge Oklahoma State Cowboys fan. Enfield, who was an assistant coach with the Celtics from 1998-2000, was introduced to Marcum through a mutual friend. “I thought he looked like a great driver that would give me a free ride,” Amanda said jokingly. “And we had lots of things in common — especially sports — and we talked and talked about that. I thought he was really funny and very confident. And I’m a sucker for sports guys, obviously. “One of the first things I noticed about him once I got to know him that I really liked is as well-accomplished as he is, and as great a career as he has made for himself, he’s very modest about it. I found those things out about him from other people instead of him bragging. I thought that was very impressive and said a lot about his character.” Despite their difference in age (Enfield is 9 years older than Marcum), the couple dated for a while. Fittingly, their first date was to a St. John’s NIT game together. They later got married and had a family, and Enfield can’t say enough about the sacrifices Marcum has made in becoming a coach’s wife. “It was hard for her to give her career up,” Andy said. “But she loves sports so much and wanted a family and thought this is something she could do. I give her a lot of credit. Very difficult decision on her part to give up something she worked so hard for and had been so good at. “She wanted to do it. She wanted to give up her career to raise a family, and to be an assistant coach’s wife at Florida State for a few years. I give her a lot of credit because it was very difficult for her to do that. She was so successful.” You make think they look like an odd couple, but by all accounts their relationship seems quite genuine. As a side note, Enfield is the NCAA’s all-time free throw percentage leader at 92.5%. You’d have to be pretty naive to think that didn’t score him some points with his sports junkie super model of a wife. Step aside, Andy Roddick. We have a new hottest wife in sports.
