TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Mario Edwards Jr. played against Nevada with a cast on his right hand and will have surgery this week to have screws and a plate inserted, making him questionable for Saturday's game against Bethune-Cookman. Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said Edwards Jr., the nations top defensive recruit in the class of 2012, hurt the hand Thursday evening in practice. "He possibly will be out this week," Fisher said. "He should be fine (for the rest of the season). It all depends on how it heals." Even with the cast on his hand, Edwards Jr. had four tackles, including a tackle for loss, in the 62-7 rout of Nevada. If Edwards Jr. can't play on Saturday for No. 8 Florida State (2-0) against Bethune (3-0), FSU will turn to senior Dan Hicks, redshirt freshman Chris Casher, true freshman DeMarcus Walker and even Ukeme Eligwe, a linebacker, as part of the rotation at defensive end. Fisher said he is also waiting on the results of offensive lineman Wilson Bells MRI on his knee. Well wait on that MRI, Fisher said. I dont know if its as bad as we think. Knock on wood. He may be banged up but well have to wait and see. Fisher also said James Wilder Jr. has insisted to him that there is no pain in his shoulder. Wilder Jr. has been in noticeable pain during both the Pitt and Nevada games. He had said before the Nevada game that his shoulder was feeling good and just need a few days rest.
