MADISON -- James White has become the most complete running back that Gary Andersen has ever coached. It was White's performance in the Wisconsin Badgers' 27-17 win over BYU that seemed to confirm that in Andersen's mind. White rushed for 147 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns. He also added a career-high six receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown. But none of those touches were the first thing that Andersen thought of when asked about White after the game. "Everybody sees him on the ball, everybody sees him scoring those big touchdowns, and trust me, those are tremendous plays," Andersen said. "But there was one play in the game that was a corner blitz; a corner was free off the edge. There's no way (quarterback) Joel (Stave) gets that ball off." Unless White came to the rescue, which he did. Most impressive for the senior running back on that play was that he said it "probably technically wasn't my responsibility in the protect...

James White powers Badgers to 27-17 victory over BYU

BYU and Wisconsin came in wanting to run the ball effectively, but it was Wisconsin that got the job done on Saturday as the Badgers won in front of 80,191 fans at Camp Randall Stadium.  "It's a great win," said Wisconsin head coach Gary Andersen. "Kids played extremely hard. I thought that was maybe, overall, our best team victory. Just every aspect of the...

Chris Borland makes impact in return to Badgers defense

MADISON, Wis. -- Gary Andersen was pleased that the rest of the Wisconsin Badgers' defense didn't just wait around for Chris Borland to make a play. Maybe it was the previous seven quarters operating without their star linebacker that taught the Badgers that lesson. But with Borland back on the field in Saturday's 27-17 win over BYU, his performance certainly allowed...

BYU vs. Wisconsin: Stats Don’t Tell the Story

Wisconsin’s James White is the most ‘complete’ back in all of college football

He may not be as big as Ohio State’s Carlos Hyde or as fast as Oregon’s De’Anthony Thomas, but you will be hard-pressed to find a running back in all of college football as complete as he is. Heck, he’s not even the fastest or biggest running back on his team. The running back we’re talking about is the Wisconsin Badgers senior and jack-of-all-trades, James White. White...

Wisconsin keeps rolling with 27-17 win over BYU

Wisconsin Badgers Head Coach Gary Andersen ended one of his post-game statements with “7-2 baby,” and deservedly so.
