South Carolina junior running back Marcus Lattimore was one of the biggest stud running backs in the nation last season.  He ended 2010 as the SEC’s Freshman of the Year, an All-SEC first team selection and as second-team All American.  Last season he was off to a rip-roaring start with ten touchdowns and a 5.0 yards per carry average through South Carolina’s first seven games.  In the seventh game against Mississippi State, Lattimore’s season ended with a torn ACL. This season, Lattimore was off to an even better start with 17 scores through eight-plus games until he suffered one of the worst sports injuries you’ll ever see (or so I’ve been told, I refuse to watch it).  Here’s the video.  WARNING: IT’S BAD (I think). Lattimore, a classy kid by all accounts, suffered a dislocated knee and severe ligament damage. He’s looking at surgery and possibly over one year of rehabilitation. Lattimore ha vowed to return to football after what could have been a career-ending injury. Since Saturday, Gamecock fans and college football fans across the country have shown an amazing amount of support.  A Facebook page created following Lattimore’s latest injury has received over 68,000 “likes”.  Parents have taken pictures of their kids holding signs wishing Marcus a happy birthday (he turned 21 on Monday) and a full, speedy recovery.  It really goes to show you how respected and liked Lattimore is. I’d like to personally wish Marcus the best of luck with his recovery.  As a former athlete of suffered a career-ending injury (albeit nowhere near as gruesome), it sucks to have your hard work taken from you.  But I have no reason not to believe that #21 won’t be running the ball for South Carolina in the future.
