South Carolina and North Carolina play tonight to kick off the college football season.  While this Battle of the Carolinas is compelling for a number of reasons, I think the New York Post is reaching on this one just a bit in the subheadline.  Either the Post is mistaken, or there are actually only 49 states in the union.  And for that matter - what about the Dakotas?

UNC Football: The Tar Heels need to look forward

Have you had your fill of doom and gloom articles when it comes to UNC Football’s first game of the season? Good, then let’s move right on to the second game of the season. Or better yet, let’s hope that the Carolina coaching staff can get the players to move forward quickly. Because that is exactly what head coach Fedora’s squad needs to do from this morning on. The game...

UNC Football: It’s recap time… South Carolina

Yesterday afternoon, right after 6:00 p.m. EST, began the season for UNC Football, as the Tar Heels took on the Gamecocks as what the New York Post believed to be a lopsided in-state match up. While the newspaper could use a bit of help in the geography department, they might just have someone who has an in within the Vegas odds makers, as South Carolina took this one 27 to 10. But...

South Carolina kicker Fry victim of jersey gaffe

Everyone's excited about the college football season getting underway, including, it seems, South Carolina's equipment suppliers. Freshman place kicker Elliot Fry nailed a 39-yard field goal in the first quarter of the No. 6 Gamecocks' season opener vs. North Carolina -- and he did it with a jersey that wasn't quite complete. The front of Fry's uniform says...

Jadeveon Clowney Responds To Criticism On Twitter

While South Carolina easily handled UNC to kick off its 2013 season, much of the attention from the matchup has been centered around Gamecocks defensive star Jadeveon Clowney, who often looked winded between snaps. Many sportswriters and analysts have even gone as far as to remove him from the Heisman race – a move that seems a bit premature. Clowney has obviously heard the criticism...

South Carolina kicker Elliot Fry’s jersey, unlike his leg, came up a bit short

Gamecocks kicker Elliot Fry booted a 39-yard field goal to put SC up 17-0 over North Carolina in the first quarter of college football’s season opener, despite having a jersey that was somewhat lacking. Video: Connor Shaw Throws 67-Yard Touchdown To Shaq Roland Less Than 80 Seconds In vs. UNC

Well, that was fast. For all the talk of Jadeveon Clowney and South Carolina’s defense this offseason, it was the Gamecocks’ offense that struck first to start the college football season. On the opening possession of the game, Connor Shaw dropped back and fired deep to wide receiver Shaq Roland who had outstripped his defender deep down the middle. The result? A 67-yard touchdown...

No. 6 South Carolina uses big plays to beat UNC

Big plays on offense for No. 6 South Carolina? That's not what was supposed to happen with a defense led by All-American Jadeveon Clowney. Instead, it was a 75-yard touchdown run by Mike Davis and two long scoring passes from quarterbacks Connor Shaw and Dylan Thompson that lifted the Gamecocks to a 27-10 victory over North Carolina on Thursday night. The win was Steve Spurrier...

South Carolina Handles Heels 27-10

In a game that the New York Post dubbed a battle of "in-state" rivals, it was South Carolina that came out on top. The Gamecocks immediately seized control of the game when they jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the first drive of the game. On that drive, new starting RB Mike Davis ran twice for 17 yards and then QB Connor Shaw threw a 65 yard bomb to WR Shaq Roland for a TD...

North Carolina Tackle Takes Cheap Shot at Jadeveon Clowney's Ankle

Jadeveon Clowny, the first pure defensive player considered to have a real shot at winning the Heisman, didn't put on a Heisman type performance Thursday night against North Carolina, but if you ask him I'll bet he'll say what mattered was the win--and he would be right. Hoopgifs.com What was troubling was the fact that he looked gassed during much of the...
