Found October 29, 2013 on College Spun:
Ohio State coaches, players and fans famously refer to Michigan as “That team up North”, refusing to call utter the program’s actual name. Now, it looks like at least one player on another rival of the Wolverines – the Michigan State Spartans – might be starting a similar tradition. Senior cornerback Darqueze Dennard won’t refer to Michigan as “Michigan” this week, instead opting for “The guys down the road”. Per Rachel Lenzi of the Toledo Blade: Dennard on “Michigan”: “That’s a bad word, I’m going to stay away from that. I don’t want to give them acknowledgement … It is what it is.” — Rachel Lenzi (@RLenziBlade) October 29, 2013 Darqueze Dennard has been referring to Michigan as “The guys down the road.” Won’t say Michigan. — Rachel Lenzi (@RLenziBlade) October 29, 2013 No, it isn’t the most original trash talk we’ve ever seen, but yes, we’ll be tuning in this Saturday either way.
