Bo Pelini has been feeling some heat of late, and had the Cornhuskers lost to Northwestern there is little doubt that folks like former Nebraska great Tommie Frazier would have given it to the ole ball coach even more.
When Northwestern kicked a short field goal with a little more than a minute left it wasn't looking too good, but then something strange happened. A Hail Mary actually worked!
What makes this play even more epic than a Hail Mary would normally be is the people involved. If we were talking about something between long time starting quarterback Taylor Martinez and any of his receivers you could chalk it up to chemistry or something; Maritinez knew where to put it.
But no. It was the third string quarterback (Martinez was hurt and Tommy Armstrong not playing so hot) and a player that had yet to catch a touchdown pass during his college career, Jordan Westerkamp.
Nice job guys. Next up--Michigan.
BEST OF MAXIM
The Nebraska Cornhuskers may have saved the job of Bo Pelini with this one. They also became bowl eligible with their sixth win; beating visiting Northwestern on a last second Hail Mary. Ron Kellogg III, the third string QB completed a touchdown pass to Chicago area product Jordan Westerkamp. The redshirt freshman from Lombard, Illinois (Montini Catholic) hauled in a 49-yarder as...
The week didn’t go so well for one Pelini brother, but the other was much more fortunate. Bo Pelini’s Nebraska Cornhuskers beat Northwestern 27-24 on Saturday after connecting on a miracle Hail Mary on the last play of the game. Quarterback Ron Kellogg III heaved one to the end zone that was tipped and caught […]
On Nebraska's official athletics Web site, quarterback Ron Kellogg III is scouted like this: "will continue to be a valuable part of Nebraska's quarterback depth chart in 2013."
That, evidently, is code for "will play only when it's time to throw it to the end zone from super far away." How do you like him now?
That's Kellogg completing a 49...
If you haven’t heard, the Nebraska Cornhuskers pulled off one of the most miraculous victories of the college football season earlier today on a 49-yard hail mary pass from Ron Kellogg III to Jordan Westerkamp on the final play of the game against Northwestern. The team’s locker room celebration is going down exactly as you’d expect – just pure mayhem.
Who says there's no excitement in the Big Ten? Over the weekend Nebraska stunned Northwestern with a game winning hail mary as the clock ticked to zero for the win. Backup QB Ron Kellogg III made the throw. Jordan Westerkamp made the catch. And the Nebraska radio team of Greg Sharpe and Matt Davison made the delirious call.
When one Pelini brother lost his job this week, many wondered why it wasn’t two. Bo Pelini is deep in the weeds in Lincoln after that loss to Minnesota, and everybody knows it.
Nebraska can tolerate losses to teams that go to BCS games two years out of three. It can’t handle losses to teams that consider a Buffalo Wild Wings bowl berth a major accomplishment. Even though the...
This is the best finish of the 2013 college football season. All other last-second plays – game-winning field goals, last-second defensive stops, etc. – pale in comparison against Nebraska quarterback Ron Kellogg III desperation heave to wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp, a play that will live in highlight reels and end-of-year montages for as long as Nebraska fields a team, which...
Things just cannot get any worse for Northwestern. The Wildcats, still searching for their first Big Ten win of 2013, just lost a game in the most heartbreaking fashion possible – a hail mary. Nebraska quarterback Ron Kellogg III heaved a 49-yard pass into NU’s end zone, which was tipped and eventually caught by Jordan Westerkamp for the victory. Northwestern led 24-21 before...

The recruiting process of Dimarya Mixon has been quite the roller coaster ride. The West Mesquite (Texas), a onetime 2013 defensive end prospect, was committed to Arizona State, and then Missouri before settling on Nebraska just days before National Letter of Intent day. These days, Mixon who never enrolled at Nebraska, is exploring his options once again and they do include the Sun Devils.
Nebraska Cornhuskers backup quarterback Ron Kellogg threw this 49-yard Hail Mary that was caught by Jordan Westercamp in the end zone. The ball was tipped and caught and gave Nebraska the 27-24 win. The best part of this video, without question, is Bo Pelini’s reaction to the touchdown. Absolutely hysterical. The Northwestern Wildcats have now dropped 5 straight in an absolutely...
The Northwestern Wildcats will travel to play the Nebraska Cornhuskers this Saturday in a match-up of two schools form the Big Ten.
It was not long ago that Northwestern (4-4) was undefeated since then they have lost four in a row. Meanwhile Nebraska (5-2) is hoping to bounce back from a loss to Minnesota.
Coverage of the game between Northwestern and Nebraksa will air on...
If Nebraska makes it back to the Big Ten championship game, the Cornhuskers might look at Jordan Westerkamp's tipped-ball touchdown on the last play against Northwestern as the one that saved their season and maybe even Bo Pelini's job.
The Huskers (6-2, 3-1) head to Michigan this week alone in second place behind Michigan State (8-1, 5-0). If they win - Wolverines coach...
