On Saturday night, the Fighting Irish cruised into West Lafayette expecting to stomp a struggling Purdue team.  The Boilermakers were blown out in their season opener vs. Cincinnati and barely scraped by an Indiana State team that allowed 73 points to the Indiana Hoosiers the week before.  Notre Dame trailed during most of the game but eventually pulled out a 31-24 victory vs. Purdue. The Good:Notre Dame WR DaVaris Daniels had a monster game. The 6'2", 203-pound junior caught 8 passes for 167 yards (20.9 ypr) and 2 TD, including a 82-yard reception in which he stiff-armed a talented Purdue DB, Ricardo Allen, half way down the field. Daniels and TJ Jones may prove to be a deadly 1-2 punch at WR.Notre Dame QB Tommy Rees had a solid game, completing 20 of his 33 pass attempts (60.6 percent) for 2 TD and 0 INT.The Bad:Notre Dame struggled to rush the ball against Purdue. The top rusher for Notre Dame only posted 56 yards against the Boilermakers. Junior Amir Carlisle fumbled in the 4th quarter, but Purdue failed to capitalize on the opprotunity. Junior Cam McDaniel was relied on to close the game out, and he did just that, perhaps earning more playing time in the upcoming weeks. The Ugly:I believe that one of the toughest positions in football to play is kicker. Physically, kickers don't have to do much, but they face a lot of humiliation upon failure. Purdue kicker Paul Griggs missed a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter. This was perhaps one of the ugliest plays in the game, but Griggs later redeemed himself by making a 47-yard field goal.
