An upset was in the air last year in Columbus when Ohio State hosted Cal, but it was to no avail as the Buckeyes defeated Cal 35-28 in the closing minutes of the four quarter. With an injured Braxton Miller and an improved Cal offense, this Saturday’s rematch at Cal’s Memorial Stadium could be the first real test for the 2013 Ohio State Football team. Head Coach Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes dropped another spot in the AP Top 25 (4) despite a 42-7 thrashing of the San Diego State Aztecs. Meyer is “fairly optimistic” that QB Braxton Miller will play despite injuring his left knee in the opening drive against SDSU. Backup QB Kenny Guiton led the Ohio State offense to victory after Braxton Miller’s first quarter knee injury Whether Miller sees the field or not, Buckeye fans can rest easily knowing that backup Kenny Guiton is more than capable of running the Buckeyes clap-to-snap offense. The senior captain completed 19 of 28 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 83 yards and another touchdown on the ground last week against the Aztecs. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears are looking at Saturday night as a way to announce to the college football world that they’re back and ready to compete. Cal’s started their season off 1-1, earning their first win against Portland State in a  37-30 nail-biter. The Golden Bear’s “Bear Raid” offense has been flying high, averaging 472.5 passing yards in the first two games.  Coach Meyer will be relying on his stacked secondary to step up on Saturday, especially DB Bradley Roby. You have to assume that, in a must-win game for both teams, both teams will error on the side of caution. The Buckeyes and Golden Bears both have shown to have potent offenses, and all it takes is for one side to capitalize on a few mistakes to bust Saturday night’s game wide open.
