The Oregon Ducks contest with the USC Trojans will be one of the most anticipated games this fall, but already the rivalry between the two Pac-12 powers is gaining steam.

Chip Kelly’s much-discussed snub of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was the top headline Monday, especially after releasing a statement saying he has “unfinished business” to accomplish with the Ducks.

ESPN’s Joe Schad, the enterprising reporter he is, relayed this information with the following tweet:

Barkley, never one to shy away from bold statements on Twitter, retweeted Schad with a topper of his own:

The term “unfinished business” is familiar to Barkley. When the USC quarterback announced last month he would forgo the NFL Draft and return for his senior season he said: “This 2012 team has some serious unfinished business to attend to and I plan to play a part in it.”

Darrion Weems, a senior offensive lineman last season, evidently took exception to Barkley’s Twitter message, saying on his own feed Monday afternoon:

Burned! But in Barkley’s defense, he’s had to deal with a little obstacle called NCAA probation that the Trojans have had to endure for the past two seasons.

After Barkley announced he would return for his senior year and even before Kelly flirted with the idea of bouncing to the NFL, Oregon’s trip to the Coliseum Nov. 3 was already highly anticipated, as it might have national title implications as well as within the conference. But the more both sides want to develop a bitter rivalry by jawing back and forth on various means of media, I say the better.
