Skip Holtz, fired by South Florida earlier this month, has been hired by Louisiana Tech to be its next head football coach according to multiple reports Thursday.
Holtz, the son of former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz, would replace Sonny Dykes, who took over at Cal on Dec. 5. Holtz was 16-21 in three seasons with the Bulls, leading the team to the worst season in school history this past season -- 3-9. Six days after firing Holtz, South Florida hired Western Kentucky's Willie Taggart on Dec. 8.
Holtz will be inheriting a team that went 9-3 and spent time in the Top 25, though it did not receive a bowl invite. The Bulldogs will move from the WAC to Conference USA next season.
