Roundtree’s game-winning catch against Notre Dame in 2011 stands as one of Michigan’s most memorable football moments. (Photo courtesy ESPN.com) This is a pretty important weekend for Michigan wide receiver Roy Roundtree. You just might not know it from talking to him. Roundtree will find out in the coming days where he’ll continue his football career — either via a late-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft or as an undrafted free agent — but he sounded laid back and confident when The Detroit Sports Site caught up with him Thursday morning for a quick interview … Chris Burke: So, what are your plans for draft weekend? Roy Roundtree: Tonight and tomorrow, I’m just gonna watch it at my house with my parents. Saturday, having a little get-together with my family — cookout, play some cards, just spend some time together. CB: I heard that about 10 NFL teams have reached out to you so far. Do you have any idea whether they’re planning to draft you or if they’re looking ahead to free agency? RR: Some of the teams say they’re going to keep me posted throughout the draft. I got calls from the Cincinnati Bengals’ wide receivers coach, and then later (head coach) Marvin Lewis called. He said he was watching film of another guy (from a Michigan game), and I was in the screen all the time, so he had to figure out who I was — so he liked what he saw. The Raiders, too — I heard from their assistant coach and a scout.” CB: Are you feeling confident, then, considering that you’ve heard from that many teams already? Or is this going to be a nervous few days? RR: I’m pretty excited, only time I got nervous was walking down that tunnel at the Big House. I’m laid back … excited to see where some of my friends end up. I’ll just take it from there. I’m ready to find out (where I’ll be playing). CB: I know you’ve talked with some of your former Michigan teammates who have gone through this process, including Junior Hemingway (a seventh-round pick last year). What sort of advice did they have for you? RR: Just stay patient, because it can get real stressful; just stay patient, somebody’s going to give you a chance and you’ve got to be ready when you report to mini-camp. Me and Junior were close friends, he went through that process last year. I just listed to him — I’m just going to relax and enjoy my day. I still get to play football, ain’t nothing to be stressed about. CB: Anyone in particular that you’re keeping an eye on as the draft gets going? RR: All my brothers from Michigan, that’s the key — see where they end up. I sent the texts out that I was praying for them, and sent a text to all the guys that I was training with. I wish nothing but the best for them. CB: It’s a bit of a weird year for Michigan, with no players really expected to be drafted in the early rounds. Is this class of Michigan guys using that as motivation at all? RR: I feel like us, our guys, we don’t really listen to the experts because they’re not putting on the helmet and playing football. They’re just going off what they see and feel, but the players that are entering the draft this year are willing to work hard and do anything to win with this team. Keep us on the sleeper mode, we like that. CB: Out of curiosity, have you talked with the Lions at all? RR: I haven’t spoke to the Lions at all. But the teams you haven’t spoke to could be the ones that call you. CB: What’s your schedule been like since the end of the college football season? RR: Just working out every day, stick to my same regiment that I did at Michigan. I was down in Florida training right after the Outback Bowl; after (Michigan’s) Pro Day, I took two or three days off, but that’s it. It’s an every day thing. CB: I’m sure I know the answer to this already, but do you have any preference for where you wind up? Or are you just ready to get going with a new team? RR: I’m just anxious to have that next opportunity — get ready for mini-camp, learn as many plays as I can, get ready for training camp. If they want me, means I’m a fit for them and they like what they saw from me.
