This Saturday afternoon, Georgia or Alabama will be crowned the champions of the South Eastern Conference. Referred to as the premier conference in college football by many, the SEC championship guarantees us all what has been common the past few years.  The winner of this game will go on to play Notre Dame in the BCS National Championship game on January 7th. That would continue a trend that has already seen seven SEC schools in the BCS title game in the last six years, an achievement that no other conference can say they have accomplished. For Alabama, this would be their third trip to the conference title game since 2008. It  would also mark the third time since 2009 that the Crimson Tide will finish one or two in the final BCS rankings if they win out. For Georgia, this trip to the SEC Championship game will be their second in a row, losing to LSU last season 42-10. They will not only be playing for the SEC championship, but also for the school’s first ever trip to the BCS title game. Alabama is currently favored by seven but Georgia, along with quarterback Aaron Murray, will look to prove the oddsmakers wrong. Murray has been hot as of late as he has thrown 14 touchdowns and no interceptions since the second half of the game against the Gators. On the other sidelines, quarterback AJ McCarron will look to carry the Tide past the Bulldogs with mistake-free football (just two interceptions by the junior quarterback). But is the nation opened to seeing another SEC school playing for the national championship game? Last year’s Alabama-LSU BCS championship matchup drew the third lowest television ratings for a national championship game in 14 years of BCS history. So whether we are ready for it or not, the SEC will be sending yet another school to college football’s big stage. And that is guaranteed.
