LOS ANGELES -- USC defensive end Morgan Breslin has been the talk of the Trojans defense through four games, but you won't hear a peep from him. Via the USC Sports Information Department, he's respectfully declined interview requests from members of the media since he stepped on campus. His teammates don't hear much from him either. "We don't hear him talk," said USC head coach Lane Kiffin. "All he says is 'Fight On.'" Instead, Breslin lets his play do the talking for him. The junior college transfer from Diablo Valley College is leading No. 13 USC in sacks, five, and tackles for loss, 9.5. It's familiar ground for him. He led the state in those same categories last season in junior college. Last week in USC's win over Cal, Breslin led the charge with 3.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss. For his efforts, he was named the CFPA National Defensive Performer of the Week and CFPA National Defensive Lineman of the week. He wreaked havoc on Cal all game long with his "relentless play." "Morgan played every snap of the game," Kiffin said. "The first play of the game he makes the play all (by) himself with the tackle in the backfield and the last play of the game he makes a sack. "(It's a) pretty cool story to point out to our guys the guy's playing the first snap of the game and the last snap of the game at the same speed." Breslin has quickly become an example for his defensive line mates. "It's very motivating," said defensive tackle Antwaun Woods. "Like Coach (Ed Orgeron) always says, 'he don't know no speed but full speed.' It's crazy how you can see this guy go full speed all the time. It's just crazy. It pumps me up." Breslin has a high motor like a former Trojan he looked up to, according to his teammates, Brian Cushing. The 2007 Rose Bowl Defensive MVP had 27 tackles for loss in his career at USC, including 8.5 sacks. "His whole motto is 'what would Cush do?'" said defensive lineman George Uko. "He just idolizes Cush from the day he walked in, even in camp. Every day before practice he would watch Cush's highlight tape on his iPad just to get him ready for practice. "He just has a different mindset and motto about how he takes the field. He's all business. He doesn't care about the accolades. He doesn't care about his name being seen. He doesn't care about none of that." The one-time UCLA commit, Breslin, is much softer spoken than Cushing, who hails from New Jersey, however he can be counted on for a "Fight On," which has become a go-to for a laugh inside the Trojans locker room and in team meetings. "Friday night meetings we try to get him to talk and he just says 'Fight On,'" Kiffin said. Added defensive tackle Leonard Williams, "After the game they'll ask him to give a speech and he'll just say 'Fight On.' "He doesn't say much, he's just a worker."
