Tyrann Mathieu Arrested on Marijuana ChargesFormer LSU star cornerback Tyrann Mathieu was arrested, Thursday, for possession of marijuana.
Police were called to an apartment complex in Baton Rouge and, once inside, noticed the smell of marijuana coming from Mathieu’s apartment. The police found about 10 bags of marijuana, along with additional drug paraphernalia.
Others arrested included former Tiger players Jordan Jefferson, Derrick Bryant, and Karnell Hatcher. Per multiple reports, Mathieu, Jefferson and Hatcher were charged with possession, while Bryant was charged with possession and intent to distribute.
The man nicknamed Honey Badger has certainly seen his fortunes change in recent times. A year ago, Mathieu was the talk of the college football world. He led his team to an undefeated regular season and a berth in the national championship game. Individually, he had one of the more dominating defensive seasons in recent college history, as his prowess in the backfield and in the return game made him a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
Then, everything seemed to fall apart in the offseason, as coach Les Miles dismissed the troubled Mathieu for drug related issues. Afterwards, Mathieu began to look for a new school to which he could transfer, in order to continue his college career, rather than sit out a year.
Eventually, he gave up on the idea of playing college football this year and decided to enroll in a drug rehabilitation program in Houston. Unfortunately, it seems that Mathieu’s stint in rehab wasn’t enough to keep him from getting into trouble again.
Now more than ever, Mathieu’s problems are visible for the whole world to see. Les Miles’ shocking dismissal makes more sense given the kind of behavior this young man has exhibited.
It’s been a sad few months for Mathieu. At this point, one can only hope that this most incident will provide the catalyst needed to get Mathieu to turn his life around.
