The top-ranked Alabama football team had two more players named as semifinalists for national awards on Friday as the Rotary Lombardi Award selected C.J. Mosley and the Ray Guy Award tabbed Cody Mandell.
Cody Mandell was one of the best punters in the nation last year, but not many people knew it. That’s because Alabama’s offensive success limited him to only 50 punts on the year, leaving him one shy of the 3.6 punts per game necessary to qualify in NCAA rankings. Cody could care less.
Alabama’s newest commitment for the class of 2014 holds a lot in his lanky 6-foot-5 frame, 185 pounds and crooked side grin… but when I first laid eyes on him I thought he was someone’s 14-year-old kid brother.
JK Scott could be Alabama’s next punter when Cody Mandell leaves next year- but he has to graduate high school first.
