The big pickup of the week on the fantasy baseball waiver wire is Santiago Casilla of the San Francisco Giants who is now the main closer with Brian Wilson lost for the season. Sergio Romo could also see a smattering of save chances but Casilla looks like the guy for now to go after in mixed league formats. In addition to Casilla, here are some other names to consider adding to your team that might be sitting out on the waiver wire in week three of the fantasy baseball season.

12 / 15 team mixed league:

OF – Nolan Reimold (BAL) – slugged home runs in four straight games with seven RBI and is now hitting .341 on the season in 41 at bats. He is not going to provide much in the way of RBI if he continues to hit first in the lineup, but he should be a good source of power with a few steals mixed in plus a decent amount of runs scored.

OF – Jordan Schafer (HOU) – his plate discipline has been much improved in 2012 which has helped his batting average as well as his stolen base total thanks to a .404 on base percentage. With six stolen bases in 12 games, he is well on his way to surpassing all projections in that category. If he can keep his batting average in the .250 to .260 range and continue to draw walks, he is going to have a lot of value.

American League Only:

OF – Clete Thomas (MIN) – recently claimed by the Twins, he looked to be noting more than a reserve outfielder, even with the demotion of Ben Revere. However, with three starts in four games since joining the team, Thomas is worth a look in AL-only leagues. He has a home run and four RBI in 13 at bats and figures to share time in right field with Ryan Doumit.

2B/SS/3B - Eduardo Nunez (NYY) – with Brett Gardner hitting the disabled list, it pushes Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones to left field and allows the Yankees to rotate their infielders at designated hitter getting Nunez in the lineup. He stole 22 bases in 309 at bats last season and has one steal in 15 at bats this year. He is starting at second based tonight and batting ninth with Robinson Cano at designated hitter.

National League Only:

3B- Matt Carpenter (STL) – with Lance Berkman likely headed to the disabled list after injuring his calf again yesterday, Carpenter is line to see a lot of at bats the next couple of weeks. Carpenter is hitting .375 in 24 at bats with a home run and 11 RBI. Check your league rules to see where he might qualify as he played five games at third base in 2011 and has played six games at first base in 2012.

1B – Matt Adams (STL) – just in case Berkman is on the shelf for an extended period of time, I would also look into reserving Adams if you have space on reserve. Currently hitting .362 in Triple-A, Adams has three home runs and eight RBI in 58 at bats. He should be the starting first base in 2013 but he could jump start that process if Berkman would be out for a long period of time.

OF – A.J. Pollock (ARI) – I had written about Pollock in the minor league report a week ago. With Chris Young on the disabled list, Pollock is getting his chance to play earlier than expected. He went 0-for-3 with a walk while hitting seventh in his first game last night and is starting and hitting first in tonight’s game. He could provide a few stolen bases in his stint at the major league level until Young returns.
