The Philadelphia Phillies pair off against the Colorado Rockies today at 2:37 pm EDT to begin their bid to win back to back World Series. Hamels Falters As Rockies Even Up Series

Today will be a memorable day for Cole Hamels but not for anything he did on the mound. Hamels, who everyone hoped would magically be the 2008 shutdown pitcher once again, had a poor performance in Game 2 for the Phillies, giving up 4 runs in his 5 innings of work. The Phillies eventually fought back into the game but the runs Hamels gave put the Phillies in a hole that they never...

“The taste is still in our mouths and we want to taste it again." -Ryan Madson on potentially repeating as WFC The winds have blown postseason baseball back into Philadelphia today as the Phillies are set for a rematch of the 2007 NLDS with the Rockies. As Charlie mentioned in his pregame press conference this morning that he saw a tree branch fall...

NLDS Game 1: Phillies 5, Rockies 1

What happened? Cliff Lee dominated the Rockies over nine innings to lead the Phillies to a victory in the first game of the National League Division Series. Who did what? Scenes From An NLDS Game 1: Ubaldo Jimenez Makes An Early Exit

Young Ubaldo Jimenez looked like a pitcher possessed his first time through the Phillies lineup. Out of the first eight batters he faced, only one of them managed to get on base, and he (Jayson Werth) was quickly erased after Raul Ibanez grounded into a double play. Jimenez was changing speeds masterfully, hitting [...]

Lee gets starting nod for Phillies in NLDS Game 1

Cliff Lee will start Game 1 of the NL division series for the Philadelphia Phillies against Colorado on Wednesday. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner got the nod over Cole Hamels, who was MVP of the World Series and NLCS last year. Lee was 7-4 with a 3.39 ERA in 12 starts after the Phillies acquired him from Cleveland on July 29.

Video: NLDS Game 1 Slideshow

This is a video slide show of assorted photos, both by me and from the AP (I think you'll pick up on which ones are mine). The choice in song was inspired by the recent news (HT: The 700 Level) that Jimmy Rollins and the Phillies listen to Jay-Z's album, The Blueprint 3, in the locker room everyday.Look for more video slide shows in the future.

Werth Whacks

Jayson Werth hits a two-out, solo home run to right-center in the bottom of the eighth off Rafael Betancourt to cut the Rockies lead to 5-4. That send the reliever to the showers. Update: The Dodgers game will start on TNT if you’d rather watch that one. Franklin Morales enters to try to get [...]

Hamels talks about Game 2 start, defends Philly fans

PHILADELPHIA — Cole Hamels is so SoCal. He’s got long slick black hair and a Cheshire cat grin. Nothing seems to bother him. So it wasn’t a surprise that he said publicly he wasn’t upset about not getting the Game 1 assignment. He will go in Game 2. Hamels won all three of the Phillies’ [...]

Helton ‘charms’ media as only Helton can

PHILADELPHIA – Today’s Todd Helton show was a combination of smart-aleck wit, boredom and Helton’s aw-shucks Tennessee charm. Helton likes sitting in front of reporters and TV cameras about as much striking out, but he took one for the team today as the Rockies pre-game spokesman. Here is a sampling: On Rockies’ plans today vs. Cole Hammels [...]
