One of my favorite sites MLBTR took a look at the worst signings of the 2009 season, now that most of the year is already over. As I could have predicted when it happened Oliver Perez tops the list...Oliver Perez - $36MM over three years - He allowed 51 runs in 66 innings for an ugly 6.82 ERA. Knee injuries shortened his season, but he still managed to walk 58 batters, almost one per frame. source MLBTR

Jack Egbert foreboding sign for the Mets farm...
As most of us have read the Mets have claimed Jack Egbert off waivers (source Newsday) . First of all, there's no harm in this move, all it took was placing Fernando Martinez to the 60 day DL. Egbert is a Long Island native who graduated from Rutgers University, maybe the return to his home town will do his career some good. The 26 y/o right handed made his first two major league...
September 24
Today is the first anniversary of the most disappointing game I ever attended at Shea stadium. To mark it, I would like to share a portion of a chapter of my new book The Last Days of Shea: Delight and Despair in the Life of a Mets Fan. I hope other Mets fans can appreciate this. I think that most of those who enjoyed my first book, Mets Fan will enjoy The Last Days of Shea....
Six Lessons to Be Learned From the Mets' Lost Season
"The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." — Albert Einstein
Thinking back to last season, or even the last two, this time of year was full of excitement—both good and bad—for New York Mets fans.
That is not the case in 2009. Even the most optimistic of Mets fans will admit that their favorite...
Evidence of Things Seen
Winter Training shifts into high gear with an exhibition of nothingness tonight, one more a week from tonight and then, starting the following Monday, we have nothing for real.
I'm picking the Mets to go 0-0 starting October 5, but I don't want to be overconfident.
Until then, nine games of baseball remain, all of it probably like last night's version, which could...
The Show Is Not Over Yet
Hey, good news for you Mets fans: The 2009 season hasn't been a complete loss. Our very own Oliver Perez has reached the ultimate in athletic achievement: He's made the cover of a video game! It's Playstation's newest version of "MLB: The Show" due early next year, and the developers have installed some tweaks to the game to showcase Ollie's strengths...
Realistic way to re-tool Mets
I think the Mets have a Polyanna problem.
They are overly susceptible to seeing the glass as half full. That is how you could spend an offseason with a rotation of Johan Santana and question marks, and still arrogantly tell agents and other organizat...
The Mets Lose Aga...Wait, They Won?
That's right Mets fans. The Mets won a game.
They moved the Florida Marlins, the team that has dashed the Mets playoff hopes on the last day of the season for the last two years, one step closer to post season elimination by scoring two runs in the top of the ninth inning off Marlins closer Leo Nunez to come from behind for the victory.
Daniel Murphy and Jeff Francoeur...
Carlos looking to end career as Met
MIAMI -- Carlos Beltran's current is contract is up after the 2011 season, but the All-Star center fielder wants to finish his career with the Mets and thinks he can still play at least six more years.
Doing the math, that sounds like Beltran want...
Editing the Lowlight Reel
You'd figure everybody had all the evidence they needed to prove just how inept the 2009 Mets were. They've filled gag reels and faux Monopoly boards with pops that were dropped, fielders who fell and everything that went comically wrong — right?
But wait! Another clip has revealed itself. It's footage from September 26, the 155th game of this besotted season. We...
New York Mets (65-88) at Florida Marlins (82-71), 7:10 p.m.
It was the Marlins that officially eliminated the Mets from playoff contention in each of the previous two seasons. New York now gets a shot at some payback.
