After leaving the Mets, Marlon Anderson landed with the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League ( Independent league).Apparently Marlon has decided to leave the Bears and hopes to return to the Mets organization.Omar always loves Marlon's intangibles and I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a player coach in Buffalo, who knows he might even get a call-up in Sept...Furthermore, Marlon Anderson is believed to have left the Bears with the hopes of returning to the Mets organization, and will apparently retire if he is unable to do so.He played seven games this season with the Bears — all on the road — and hit .240 with an RBI, three walks and three strikeouts. source Atlantic League Baseball

Beltran Joins Teammates on DL, But Mets Can Still Win NL East

Carlos Beltran joins a big part of the team on the DL, and things are looking even worse for the Mets. He joins Putz, Wagner, Maine, Delgado, Perez, Maine, Pagan, and Reyes on the disabled list. There is no team that has been put in as deep of a hole as the Mets. They have lost two potential All-Stars to the DL now that Beltran has joined the list. The DL is a big reason for the Mets...

METS BASEBALL: BROUGHT TO YOU BY NEW ERROR CAPS

Talk about a buzz kill, after Thursday ‘ game and the fact that the Mets took 3 of 4 from the Cards to pull within a half game of first place in the division, I was starting to wonder could this team play just good enough to stay in the race until August when we’re told the walking wounded should all be back in the lineup plus a chance that Billy Wagner could make his way...

Mets Take Series Against Cards

The left field warning track got some serious work yesterday, first in the 2nd inning when Albert Pujols' fly ball died out there in the 2nd inning with the bases loaded and then again in the 9th when Yadier Molina's shot off a disconcerting Frankie Boy with two men on died to end the game. Both times, the Mets fragile hold on the game was saved. And if you think that was...

Wunderbar! More Sand Kicked In The Face

Well now, that's an aggregate of 24-1 in the last two games. We've got the Yank-Mees right where we want them; cocky and over-confident. Just watch these Mets roll now!Yep, that's right, Mr Rocky Outing himselfInnings Eater Pelf made it through five whole innings last night again, a lasting achievement for a bloke who has averaged almost precisely 5 innings per start...

William Perlman/The Star-LedgerGary Sheffield will miss his third straight game on Wednesday. For the third consecutive game and fourth out of the last five, Gary Sheffield will not be in the Mets lineup. Sheffield received a cortisone shot for his...

The Extender

When we think of the role and importance of an ace, we often think of his position as the team's "stopper", the guy who doesn't let a 3-game losing streak turn into four games. When Johan Santana goes to the mound today, he'll assume a different mantle. His role will be to act as the team's extender, not their stopper. The Mets have won consecutive games only once in the month of June...

MAINE MAN GOES DOWN

John Maine is being shut down, and even he admits that the earliest he'll return to the Mets is after the All-Star break. Maine threw a bullpen session on Wednesday, and that went fine. But things have gotten much worse since. The right-hander...

REST PAYS OFF FOR SHEFFIELD

Four days of rest evidently did Gary Sheffield some good. On a night almost nothing worked for the Mets, the one positive they could glean from their 9-1 loss to the Yankees was Sheffield not only survived nine innings in right field at...

William Perlman/The Star-LedgerMets closer Francisco Rodriguez looks forward to pressure-packed situations like the Subway Series. NEW YORK -- Don't expect any more drama when Mets and Yankees relievers cross paths during batting practice Friday. At least not from Francisco Rodriguez....

Baseball Before Bedtime: Peace, Love and Understanding

Here's what happened in baseball last night when I asked myself is all hope lost: Mets 11, Cardinals 0: Fernando Nieve and Nick Evans do not, in fact, make very much scratch. So while the better part of the Mets payroll is on the disabled list and/or noodling around in the minors, it's pitchers like Nieve and hitters like Evans doing the dirty work. Nieve went six shutout...

NIEVE PROVES HE'S NO FLUKE

Manager Jerry Manuel officially has a wonderful problem on his hands. John Maine and Oliver Perez are on the verge of coming off the disabled list, but Manuel knows he would be chased by Mets fans bearing pitchforks if he even thinks about taking...

New York Yankees take advantage of error-laden New York Mets for 9-1 victory

NEW YORK -- With CC Sabathia on the mound, there is little margin of error for the opposing team. When the Mets committed three blunders in one inning, Sabathia was practically handed the game. He made good on that gift....
