TEAMS: Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies
Chad Billingsley and Russell Martin aren't the only ones yearning for the glory days of 2008. Big League Stew brings us this surprisingly un-gritty comment from the Phillies' Cole Hamels after his Halloween-night shellacking:
"I can't wait for it to end," Hamels said, referring to his wildly inconsistent 2009 season. "It's been mentally draining ... It's one of those things, a year in, you just can't wait for a fresh start."
Is Cole Hamels the anti-MSB? Already sportswriters like Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com are jumping on Hamels, and I can't imagine this white flag-waving quote will go over well in boo-collar Philly. It's time to find out what the shelf life is on the goodwill from Hamels' 2008 World Series MVP award.

Cole Hamels, The Baby-It felt like a rerun watching the game last night. Hamels was solid for a few innings, then a call didn't go his way (Teixeira ball 4), the sulking began, and then a crushing hit by the opposition (A-Rod's camera ball). Phils still had the 3-2 lead heading into the top of the 5th, but Cole imploded and the game was lost. Hamels postseason ERA- 7.58, 7 hr...
Game 3 pregame: Hamels must get back to basics
I don't profess to know the secret to being a successful major league pitcher, but there are a few common sense approaches Cole Hamels needs to follow tonight. We've all recognized Hamels' need for a third pitch, which isn't going to happen until the offseason. The Inquirer's Jim Salisbury wrote today that Hamels will work on adding a cutter or slider, in addition...
Manuel on Hamels
Charlie Manuel was told of Cole Hamels quote about wanting the season over before Sunday’s game four:
Manuel sidestepped the Game 7 question, but the manager’s alarm at Hamels’ “can’t wait to get it over with” sentiment was obvious.
Manuel said he did not know Hamels had made the statement until it was relayed to him yesterday [...]
Hamels not ready to quit, wants ball if applicable
Forget what he said after Game 3, Cole Hamels wants the ball if there's a Game 7. Ken Rosenthal wonders whether he deserves it.

Renck: A mound of drama over a Game 7
Philadelphia's Cole Hamels made a case that he hasn't quit. New York's CC Sabathia made a case that he's fine starting again on short rest.

Awesome- Chase Utley. He has hit 5 homeruns this World Series, tying Mr. October Reggie Jackson for the record. Add in his 2 homeruns from the '08 WS and he has 7, which is a record for secondbaseman.Record Setter- We're used to Ryan Howard setting records for homeruns, rbi, and strikeouts during the regular season. The Bronx is not burning
One wonders why the Yankees, who've watched as Alex Rodriguez has been hit three times, haven’t sent a message to locked-in slugger Chase Utley, who tied Reggie Jackson’s mark yesterday with five homers in the Fall Classic. Multiple sources are debunking the Cole Hamels and Brett Myers spat, so let’s move back to baseball. After sharing our respective disdain for Nick Swisher...
Reflections on the Phillies-Yankees Game Last Night
1. As a Phillies' fan, it's hard to say that Cole Hamels disappointed me. How he pitched last night has pretty much been the way he's worked all year. He can go 4, 5 innings and pitch well, only to have the floor come out from under him thereafter. There are a few reasons for this. First, he was a three-pitch pitcher last year, and all of those pitches worked well for him. ...
