I just got the alert on my phone, Ryan Hanigan is returning to the Cincinnati Reds lineup tonight. And so likely ends one of the more bizarre careers in big league history. Maybe.
And some people probably wonder who Hacksaw Jim Duggan is – even though they shouldn’t. I have always been a closeted wrestling fan. Corky Miller is definitely the closest thing that baseball has to Hacksaw and here’s why.
Hacksaw was a lovable figure. He is a lovable figure, in fact. Like Hacksaw, Corky Miller is a grizzled and well-liked individual but he’s only known in a few circles. Only the most die-hard of baseball fans are going to know who the guy is. Only a person who has followed WWE and formerly the WWF would know who Hacksaw Jim Duggan is.
Like Hacksaw, Corky Miller has never won the title belt. He’s never even had a title shot (though Duggan was once crowned ‘King’ of the WWF, like that matters in any walk of life).
And most of all when you’re sure that Hacksaw Jim Duggan or Corky Miller is g...

The Cincinnati Reds activated catcher Ryan Hanigan from the disabled list before Friday’s game, and he was in the lineup to catch Tony Cingrani. And he showed that he’s healthy.
Before heading to the DL, Hanigan was miserable at the plate. In 38 at bats, he had 3 hits with a terrible .079 average. With his 5 walks, his on-base percentage was at .182, half of his career percentage...
CINCINNATI Some say that Mat Latos marches to the beat of a different drummer, but that isnt true. Latos is his own drummer.

Reds minor league pitcher Daniel Tuttle has been suspended for 100 games after violating the league's substance abuse program for the third time.
Tuttle was previously suspended 50 games for a second violation which occurred in July 2011.
The right-hander currently resides on the disabled list and has been there since April 4.
Here is the short release from MLB:
When Johnny Cueto went down with an injury earlier in the season, the Reds were forced to call up prospect Tony Cingrani to fill the void. Nobody expected Cingrani to be as effective as he is at the Major League level this early. In fact, Cingrani has been so good that many people are calling for the Reds to send down “veteran” Mike Leake and keep Cingrani in the rotation...

Brandon Phillips made a truly special play in the field and delivered at the plate to help the Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 at Great American Ballpark on Friday night.
The Reds were up 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning with one out and men on first and second following a pair of walks. Ryan Braun was up giving the Brewers...
Cincinnati Reds ace Johnny Cueto took another step towards rejoining the team when he came through a start for Class-A Dayton on Thursday. According to C. Trent Rosencrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cueto threw 50 pitches over three innings, striking out four and giving up one earned run. The Reds pitching staff was encouraged by Cueto's performance.
“It was great...
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Daniel Tuttle has been suspended for 100 games for a third violation for a drug of abuse under baseball's minor league drug program.
The 22-year-old right-hander was 1-3 with a 5.08 ERA in eight starts last year for Dayton of the Class A Midwest League and has been on the disabled list this year since April 4. He was selected by Cincinnati in the fifth...
The Cincinnati Reds are off to their best home start in 19 years.
Giving the ball to Mat Latos is likely to keep it that way.
Latos looks to become the first Reds pitcher in nine years to win eight straight decisions Saturday in a matchup with the struggling Milwaukee Brewers.
Cincinnati (20-16) is proving to be much better at home than on the road, winning a major league-best...
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips made a spectacular play in the seventh inning of Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers when he barehanded a grounder and planted his knee on second base before turning to first to turn the double play. Words don't really do justice to describe it, so here's the video:

Cincinnati Reds minor leaguer Daniel Tuttle has screwed up once again.
Just ten months after being handed a 50-game suspension for his second offense under MLB's Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, the 22-year-old right-hander's consequences have doubled for a third drug abuse violation. His 100-game benching is effective immediately. Idiot.
CINCINNATI (AP) --Brandon Phillips homered and made a spectacular rally-busting play -- using his left knee to get a forceout and start a double play -- as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 on Friday night.
Phillips had an RBI single off Yovani Gallardo (3-2) and added a solo homer in the seventh after making a saving play in the top of the inning. With two Brewers...
Jay Bruce homered his first time up, then doubled twice during a seven-run burst as the Cincinnati Reds delighted a sellout crowd, battering the Milwaukee Brewers 13-7 on Saturday.
Six different Reds players drove in two runs each, including starting pitcher Mat Latos (4-0). The defending NL Central champions moved five games over .500 for the first time this season.
Still only in the month of May, the Reds are soon coming to a second decision-making time for their rotation. In the first one they opted to leave Aroldis Chapman in his closer role. Now Johnny Cueto is working to return from the DL while replacement, prospect Tony Cingrani, has impressed in his absence.
The Reds will aim for a winning homestand this weekend when they welcome the Milwaukee Brewers to town. But to do so they will have to sweep the three-game set after dropping two out of the first three games of this homestand to the Atlanta Braves. Easier said than done, right?
Friday's affair will pit surging rookie Tony Cingrani against Brewers ace Yovani Gallardo...
