Anthony Gose is getting a chance to show that he can be the Toronto Blue Jays' left fielder next season. He eventually will be a major league center fielder, his usual position. Gose has the arm to play right field, but that position belongs to Jose Bautista when the slugger returns in spring training after undergoing season-ending wrist surgery. Gose also has the speed to be a leadoff hitter. So the Blue Jays are giving Gose frequent starts in left field in September to make an assessment about if he can open next season there with Toronto. "That's exactly what it is, for us to get as accurate of a read as we can and give him time in innings played at that position," manager John Farrell said. "Sure, there's a direct view of him in that position." Gose went 1-for-3 Tuesday in Toronto's 4-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles. He also reached first on an error on a sacrifice bunt in the seventh because of his speed. In 20 games since his recall on Sept. 4, he is batting .267 with one homer, five RBI and five stolen bases. In his first major league stint, July 17-Aug. 23, he batted .183 with no home runs, two RBI and 10 stolen bases in 28 games.
