The Toronto Blue Jays announced that they have signed veteran corner infielder Edwin Encarnacion to a three-year, $27-million deal. The deal also includes a $10 million club option for 2016. During this past few months, we've heard the Blue Jays' intention of keeping Encarnacion around. Encarnacion, 29, is having a great season with the Blue Jays this year hitting .295/.382/.565 with 23 HR's, 58 RBI's and a 150 OPS+. This deal works out very good for both parts. After disappointing seasons in 2009 and 2010, Encarnacion finally blossomed in 2011 and hit .272/.334/.453 with a 110 OPS+ (career high). Now in 2012 he's having another solid season meaning that he has hit his stride. For a three-year deal, the Blue Jays will have the best of Encarnacion, for a reasonable price, and could make him a free agent after he begins his decline. In my opinion this was a very nice move for the Blue Jays organization. Image by Keith Allison under the Creative Commons License Agreement.
