Just two weeks removed from signing a minor league contract, Carlos Marmol has already found himself in trouble with the Reds. And the reason for his strife may come as a surprise.According to the team's assistant director of media relations, Marmol has been placed on the restricted list due to leaving the club without permission. Marmol was most recently assigned to Triple-A Louisville where the enigmatic reliever allowed three runs and six walks in 3.2 innings of work. Before Louisville, Marmol spent time in Miami before the Marlins released him last month. The stigma surrounding Marmol's career is hard not to notice. The Dominican has always struggled terribly with throwing the ball over the plate. But there have also been reports to suggest Marmol might struggle just as much at times in the clubhouse and off the field. For a guy whose professional career could be nearing the end, Marmol sure isn't doing himself any favors by walking out on his current squad.
BEST OF MAXIM

For the first time since May 15, Joey Votto will be in the Cincinnati Reds starting lineup when the club takes the field for battle. This is because the 30-year-old was activated from the disabled list prior to Tuesday's home tilt against the Dodgers. Comparing Jesse Winker to past Cincinnati Reds top hitting prospects at the same point in their careers.
CINCINNATI -- One of the dangers of losing games day after day after day is that a team accepts defeat, gets comfortable losing and as soon as something negative occurs the players shake their heads and say to themselves, "Here we go again."
That's a danger facing the Cincinnati Reds these days. They've scored two or fewer runs 21 times, exactly one third of their...
Jair Jurrjens is on the comeback trail. The 28-year-old righthander signed a minor league deal with Cincinnati in late May and is currently pitching for Triple-A Louisville. If he can approach his old form, the former Atlanta Braves stalwart could give the Reds rotation a shot in the arm. Knee problems caused Jurrjens to spiral […]

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Johnny Cueto matched his career high with 12 strikeouts in six innings, and Joey Votto and Jay Bruce -- the missing core of Cincinnati's batting order much of the season -- each drove in runs Wednesday night, leading the Reds to a 5-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Cueto (6-5) followed his shortest start of the season with one of his most dominating...

Last night, Johnny Cueto dominated the Dodgers, punching out 12 batters in just six shutout innings. This wasn’t anything new, though; Cueto has been destroying opposing hitters all season long. Hitters are batting just .158/.218/.261 against him this year, good for a pitiful .217 wOBA, and he’s the easy early frontrunner for the NL Cy […]
Yeah, that’s about how I felt watching this game, too.
I don’t know. Not a whole lot to say about this one. Yes, Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp each had some issues with the home plate umpire — Kemp’s argument on this called strike three, which wasn’t a good call but which was probably too close to take, got him tossed in the second inning — didn’t help, but it also didn’t...
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Josh Beckett allowed two hits in six shutout innings and four Dodgers had two hits each as Los Angeles defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-1 Tuesday night in a game delayed more than 2 hours by rain.
Yasiel Puig, Adrian Gonzalez, Andre Ethier and Justin Turner led the Los Angeles offense with two hits apiece. Beckett got into the act with a single of his own for the...
Kyle Waldrop hit .548 over the last week as he continues to beat up on California League pitching.
The Reds should be at full health for the first time all year as Votto and Latos come back, is this just the shot in the arm they need to turn the year around. Bad news is someone has to head down and come off the 40 man who will it be?
