Philadelphians are making a big push to get Carlos Riuiz on the All-Star team this year.
And it is worthy.
He is hitting a lusty .371 with eight home runs and 31 RBI.
But in Atlanta, and rightly so until this year, Brian McCann, Atlanta’s catcher has made the All-Star team. He was the MVP of the All-Star game in 2010, even.
So what about this year?
This year, according to MLB.com, A.J. Ellis of the Dodgers has been a revelation and an on-base machine. They also mention Yada Molina of the Cardinals.
They point out that Ruiz has the highest batting average, highest slugging percentage, highest OPS and is tied with Molina in homers and RBI. Ellis leads in on-base percentage.
MLB says it is a toss up between Molina and Ruiz.
McCann has been ill with the flu lately, but is hitting . 323 with seven home runs and 28 RBI.
Ruiz has a career high in home runs, eighth and 31 RBI.
So that is why it is important for fans to separate Ruiz from the rest.
