Pro Sports Daily:
The Chicago Cubs placed catcher Steve Clevenger on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained right oblique and recalled catched Welington Castillo from Triple-A to take his place. Clevenger was injured during batting practice before the Cubs’ 5-1 win Friday night in Philadelphia. He was hitting .500 (11 of 22) with five doubles. "As of right now, I'm going to head back to Chicago and get all my treatment in and go from there and do whatever they tell me to do," Clevenger said. "You can't really get too frustrated. That's baseball. "I am a little disappointed, but you can't dwell on that. You just have to get healthy and get back ready to go." Castillo was inserted into the Cubs' lineup for Saturday’s game against the Phillies when catcher Geovanny Soto couldn’t play because of back tightness. Castillo was hitting .320 with four doubles and two home runs for Iowa

What a dominant performance by Matt Garza. The Philadelphia Phillies get one eensy weensy perfectly placed bloop single from Jimmy Rollins to lead off the game. Then it's just Garza magic for 7 innings - one walk, no runs, Cubs 3 Phils zeeero.Rafael Dolis gets 3 straight in the 8th.And then it's Carlos Marmol.
If an outfielder can record an assist, Marmol records inconsists...
The Cubs were down then Mather found some redemption, some ice and some shaving cream. Marmol blew it the next night, but was bailed out and the Cubbies walked off again. Matty G and the Shark pitched well, Wrigley was having fun and the Cubs won a series against the defending world champions. Hey, quite a nice series in a down year.
It’s Friday, let’s have some fun and go rambling...
Shawon Dunston Jr ripped a solo home run and Pierre LePage reached base three times, but the Cubs left six runners stranded over the final three innings, allowing the Rockies to escape with a 4-2 victory in Cactus League Extended Spring Training action this morning at Fitch Park Field #3 in Mesa, AZ.
The game was extended an extra inning so that all of the Cubs and Rockies pitchers...
To say Chicago Cubs fans have been waiting a long time for a World Series title is an understatement. As a matter of fact, it may be a contender for the biggest understatement of all time. Coming into the 2012 season, the Cubs had not won a World Series in 103 years. With the addition of former Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein, Cubs fans were excited that their dreams may finally...
The Phillies couldn't figure out Matt Garza today. When a pitcher is hot, he is hot. We have seen time and time again Roy Halladay go lights out on opponents. The same thing happened today against the Phillies in the form of Matt Garza.Garza pitched seven innings of one hit ball against a struggling Phillies offense looking to finish April above .500. With this 5-1 loss...
Per Paul Sullivan and Enrique Rojas of ESPN Desportes, who tipped it late last night on Twitter, the Cubs are expected to disable Steve Clevenger--yes, 11-for-22 and 1249 OPS-hitting Steve Clevenger--because of "tightness in his side." Sullivan says Clevenger felt the discomfort during batting practice before Friday night's unmerciful thrashing of Roy Halladay.
The Phils (9-10, 4th East), who had yesterday off, have just returned from Phoenix, Arizona, with a two-game winning streak and their first series win on the road, after having spilt their previous four-game series with the Padres. The Phils’ offense supported solid pitching performances from Vance Worley (2-1, 2.16) and Cole Hamels (3-1, 2.73), who, between them, gave up only...
The Cubs finally got their first series win of the year! Things are looking up….except that they just barely avoid having the worst record in the NL (mostly due to opportunity – the Padres are 6-14). It already feels like forever since the last Cubs game. The series was the Cardinals was a nice reminder [...]
