Found September 03, 2012 on Philliedelphia:
After a loss last night that no one wants to remember, the Phillies will take on Cueto (17-6, 2.48 ERA) and the Reds this afternoon.  On the mound for the Phils is rookie Tyler Cloyd (0-1, 4.50 ERA) who made his first appearance last Wednesday in a loss against the Mets. Cueto is leading the NL with a 2.48 ERA and is tied for wins. He is most definitely in the running for the NL CY Young Award. Hopefully Cloyd can prove himself today, and help his team get the win.  This Afternoons Lineup: 1. Rollins SS 2. Pierre LF 3. Utley 2B 4. Howard 1B 5. Mayberry CF 6. Brown RF 7. Frandsen 3B 8. Lerud C 9. Cloyd P  TV: CSN RADIO:  1210 WPHT, 94 WIP

The Phillies’ September Call-Up? Pete Orr

The gust of wind felt across the Delaware Valley today was not brought upon by any Labor Day storm or cold front. The wind instead was the collective sighs and exhales from Phillies’ fans who wanted to see the man they called #BabeRuf on Twitter in red and white pin stripes before the end of the year. “Ruf Riders” were disappointed today as the Phillies added infielder Pete...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2012 ERA for the MLB 5 at game 135

Tyler Cloyd now occupies the bottom slot of the rotation, making starts like yesterday’s for the Philadelphia Phillies.  Are recent additions in the west getting the job done?  The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my recent coverage linked below. TAL’S HANDY STATS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See...

The Return of Pete Orr: One More Phillies September Addition; More Later?

The Phillies have added an extra position player with the addition of utility infielder/outfielder Pete Orr to the active roster.   Orr, taken off the 40-man roster earlier this season after playing 23 games for the Phillies early on.  The Phillies created space for Orr by outrighting Hector Luna off of the roster, who opted free agency and signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates...

Finding protection for Ryan Howard might not be all that Ruf

Protecting Howard, is Ruf the guy? With the call-up of Darin Ruf what can we expect from him and how many opportunities will he get from Charlie Manuel? I for one am anxious to see if he can bring the same power to the majors that he has exhibited this season in Reading. Breaking Ryan Howards home run record certainly gets you noticed and also noticed by the fans. Ruf’s 38 home...

Series Preview - Reds (Labor Day Shorty)

Monday, 1:10 - Tyler Cloyd v. John CuetoTuedsay, 7:10 - Oh no, it's KK v. .Matt LatosWednesday, 12:35 - Roy Halladay v. Mike LeakeA week or two ago, this would an important series to help the Pirates. But the combination of some skidding Buccos and some red-hot Reds have made this series meaningless for the Buccos. And some recent failures by the Phils have made the series meaningless...

Unnatural Things: The Phillies Blow a 6-Run Lead

One out away from sweeping the Braves, the Phillies blew it in the 9th last night. One lousy out and closer Jonathan Papelbon could not get it done. Worse, the Phillies allowed a 6 run lead to slip away in a game they should have won. Instead, the 8-7 walk-off loss may haunt the Phillies for some time to come. There are certain things in life, and in baseball, that should just never...

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: Coin-loaded GM’s

Juan Pierre is still with the Philadelphia Phillies and I am not surprised.  Why would you swap a .300 hitter to save $267K and receive a no-shot prospect? TAL’S HANDY CAPS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I will publish after every game that is not washed out.  I will have many summer-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats. If you were directed...

Pregame: Kendrick Seeks 5th Straight W

The veteran pitchers all took Labor Day off yesterday as the youth movement of Tyler Cloyd, Justin De Fratus, and Phillippe Aumont fought off the Reds in a 4-2 win. It was kind of nice seeing some of the hyped up pitchers getting thrown into the pool to sink or swim, especially Aumont who had to dial up a save in his fourth game in the bigs. Very clutch. Tonight, Kyle Kendrick...

Cole Hamels Meme Contest: Vote for Your Favorite!

During Sunday's miserable game in Atlanta when things were still going well, Frank grabbed this picture of Cole Hamels on the mound and decided to make it a contest. The winner will get Frank's two tickets to Monday night's game against Miami. Hope is Gone…Phillies Get Stunned!

Jonathan Papelbon quietly packed his red Phillies travel bag in the visitor’s clubhouse Sunday night at Turner Field. The closer had just served up a three-run home run to Braves third baseman Chipper Jones in the bottom of the ninth inning in a brutal 8-7 loss. Papelbon is paid big money to close games, so any time he blows one he is upset. But this one had a different feeling...

Cliff Lee wins his second straight start as the Phils defeat the Braves, 5-1.

Cliff Lee wins his second straight start as the Phils beat the Braves, 5-1. The Phils took the lead in the first as, with two men on, and with two men out, John Mayberry,  Jr. hits an RBI single, knocking in Juan Pierre, who had earlier been safe at first on a force out, 4-unassisted, as Jimmy Rollins, who had started the game off with a single, is tagged out for the inning’s...

Phillies 4, Reds 2

Jimmy Rollins hit a three-run homer off Johnny Cueto during a cloudburst that sent fans scurrying for cover on Monday, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. John Mayberry Jr. added a solo homer off Cueto (17-7), who failed in his attempt to become the majors' first 18-game winner. Cueto also lost a day game for the first time this season...

Phillies double up the Redlegs, 4-2

Johnny Cueto's bid to become the majors' first 18-game winner fell short on Monday as the Reds (82-54) were edged out by the Philadelphia Phillies (65-70), 4-2. Jimmy Rollins smacked a 3-run homer in the fifth that proved to be all the visitors needed on a soggy Labor Day in Cincinnati. Despite the loss, Dusty Baker's club still enjoys the largest division...

A Solid Season For The Iron Pigs Ends In Disappointment

Close, but no cigar for the 2012 Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Despite their second straight winning season, and having the Pitcher of the Year in the International League, the IronPigs were eliminated over the weekend from playoff contention, then rained out on Sunday, to finish at 75-68. A year after losing in the Governor's Cup Finals, they fell just short of a second playoff...
