The Diamondbacks' two first-time All-Stars distinguished themselves -- for different reasons -- in the National League's 3-0 loss to the AL on Tuesday night at Citi Field. Pitcher Patrick Corbin put himself into the All-Star Game record book by being credited with the loss. He worked the fourth inning and gave up the game's first run -- which proved to be decisive. Facing the heart of the AL order, he gave up a double to reigning MVP Miguel Cabrera and a single to current major-league home run leader Chris Davis, advancing Cabrera to third. Jose Bautista's sacrifice fly brought home Cabrera. "I didn't know who I was going to face until I was told that those guys were coming up in the lineup," Corbin told MLB.com. "Everyone knows Cabrera is one of the best and Davis, with the home runs he's hit this year. But it was a great experience, something I'll never forget in my first All-Star Game. It was a great lineup -- wow. It was just a neat experience that they let me go out there and pitch in that inning. It's something I'll remember for the rest of my life." Goldschmidt, meanwhile, had one of the National League's three hits, a ninth-inning double to right field off Rangers closer Joey Nathan. Goldschmidt came on in the fifth inning as a defensive replacement for starting first baseman Joey Votto. He nearly had a pair of hits -- but his hard-hit groundball down the third-base line in the seventh inning was snared by Manny Machado, whose throw to first barely beat Goldschmidt to the bag. The National League RBI leader described his All-Star experience as "awesome." "Hopefully I'll get to do it again," he told MLB.com. "Obviously it's an honor to be out here with some of these guys, mentioned in the same breath as them. "I got to talk to guys I normally wouldn't talk to. That was probably my favorite part of the experience, to talk to guys and get their take on things."
