Tomorrow is the arbitration deadline, so expect some new contracts to come rolling in as the day goes on. The Padres lead the league with 11 players eligible, so it will be interesting to see how it goes. All players are expected to get some sort of contract, but to what extent is only speculation at this point. This is the time for extensions to be put in place. I think the top contract receiver will be Carlos Quentin as he is eligible this year among the 11. Here are your links for today:

Previewing the 2012 Fort Wayne TinCaps: Hitting

Fort Wayne pitching staff  For most of the 2011 season the Single-A Fort Wayne TinCaps relied almost solely on one hitter and one hitter only, Midwest League MVP Rymer Liriano.  The offense was so desolate that they were Padre-esque.  The 2011 TinCaps scored two or fewer runs in 32 of their first 72 games.  Their fortune started changing in the second half when Connor Powers...

A case for Cord Phelps

There’s been plenty of talk this offseason about moves the San Diego Padres have made. Like them or not, Josh Byrnes has not hesitated to pull the trigger on deals that he thinks are best for the team. What has also been discussed around the virtual watercooler are the moves Byrnes hasn’t made. The one I’m interested in the most for this piece is the acquisition (or lack thereof...

The Padres and Cake: A Failed Marketing Campaign

During the Kevin Towers administration under Sandy Alderson I had a source in the Padres front office. I also had a source during the Jed Hoyer Era. To call them sources would probably be inaccurate. A source is a person with whom a trusting relationship has been cultivated whereas I just happened to know someone with organizational ties who I could bug for a little information.I...

19 Reasons: I Got A Bat

The introduction to 19 Reasons can be read here. Here's reason One and reason Two. Officially, this is Reason Three.Just as I had never attended Spring Training prior to 2011, Fanfest had also flown off my radar. After the 2011 Padres Fanfest I'm at a loss for why I had never attended. On a beautiful February afternoon . . .I was stuck in the shade for the better part of...
