Prior to Saturday's FanFest the truck holding all the equipment for the team was making its way to Peoria. The team was taking pictures this morning at Petco and will then start making their way out as well. Just under 6 days to go before pitchers and catchers report. March will be here very soon and that means the spring training games will begin. This is a great opportunity to see some of the minor league players you've been reading about before they get a call up later in the season. Spring training is always fun to go to and you'll never know what happens. Last season I went to the game against the Dodgers and the benches cleared. Here are your Padres links for today:

Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn underwent another surgery, this time to remove a tumor. It's all a result of his cancer caused by tobacco.

I hope that you all enjoyed FanFest yesterday as much as I did. I didn't expect to be there all day, but that wound up being the case. I hung out a bit with Steve Adler and Cody Decker, had some good food at the Titled Kilt, walked around, bought a Portland Beavers jersey, etc. It was a great day. We can now say the baseball season is underway. You could tell the genuine excitement...

It's Valentine's Day. And that's all I have to say about that. I won't go into my opinions on this day. But I thought I should at least semi acknowledge it. The Padres made a signing yesterday! Mark Grant has a new contract to keep broadcasting games. Interesting that we have all these guys lined up to call games and yet still no official confirmation on a TV contract...

Casey McElroy, 21, was drafted in the eleventh round of the 2011 draft by the San Diego Padres out of Auburn University. The Orlando native had a strong junior year hitting .372/.429/.564 earning first team all-SEC honors and finishing in the top ten in eight league offensive categories.
