Found February 06, 2012 on Friarhood:
There you have it folks. The football season is over and the hooplah of it all will soon die down as well. The New York (Jersey?) Giants are your Super Bowl champions after beating the Patriots yesterday. All in all it was a decent game. I personally spent most of the game with it muted because Chris Collinsworth bugs me, but that's just me. So now that football is over eyes can start to wander over to other sports. We still have most of February and all of March left before opening day for baseball. In that time we have spring training starting up, and of course the ever exciting NCAA March Madness, which is always a lot of fun to watch. Plenty to hold you over until game 1, when the Padres host the Dodgers. And...that's a wrap.

The San Diego Padres have seemingly finalized their roster for the start of the 2012 season by inking Micah Owings to an interesting one year deal worth $1M. It's interesting in that Owings agreed to accept a minor league salary if he is sent down, and he did not require an opt-out clause if he doesn't stick on the ML roster.   This signing is the epitome of the type of...

MadFriars’ Off-season: Dan Robertson

Dan Robertson, 26, was drafted in the thirty-third round of the 2008 draft, which may in a few years go down as one of the better San Diego drafts with the organization selecting Logan Forsythe, Brad Brach, Blake Tekotte and Jaff Decker among others.

2012 Fantasy Baseball: The San Diego Padres Starting Rotation Preview

Corey Luebke (credits below) Petco Park is a magical place for pitchers.  In maybe its greatest illusion it made a 39 year old Woody Williams look like a competent pitcher in 2006.  Williams’ career xFIP was 4.64 and he hadn’t posted an xFIP under 4.00 since 2002.  And despite his 5.09 xFIP and 4.46 K/9, Petco helped make Williams a 3.65 ERA pitcher in 2006.  The worst...

Daily Friar 2.7.12

I did not sleep well last night, which resulted in me waking up a lot earlier than I had originally wanted to. I have a lot I need to get done today, so overall it probably isn't a bad thing. Certainly not a bad thing fo you all, because I have been browsing the internet looking for as much Padres information as I could. And I have found some stories today that go beyond the...

Padres implementing dynamic ticket pricing

The Padres have become the latest Major League team to implement dynamic pricing for single-game ticket sales.

Daily Friar 2.5.12

It's Super Bowl Sunday everybody. I know, I know, news flash. I for one don't care about either team and really don't want either of them to win, but someone has to I guess. Even on football's biggest day I still have my mind on Padres baseball. I'm sure some of you out there feel the same way that I do. This team could definitely surprise this year I think...
