I was in LA last night. Not for the game, but for a concert. I was however following the game on my phone and I was impressed that I saw a number higher than 2 next to the Padres. I was then impressed that we were able to tie the game up when it came to the 9th inning. Then all hell broke loose. It is sad how the Dodgers won that game. They didn't even have to put up a fight in the end. Anyways, Joe Wieland will be making his MLB debut tonight. Should be fun to watch. Also I hope that you are enjoying the one year anniversary of Friarhood Radio. Here are your Padres links for today:

Thatcher walks in winning run after Padres' rally - Padres.com
"There's no disputing that, as the Dodgers walked away -- literally -- with a 9-8 victory when Padres relief pitcher Joe Thatcher walked Andre Ethier on four pitches with the bases loaded to force in the winning run, much to the delight of a crowd of 31,601."
Bass wants to lower pitch count, lengthen innings - Union Tribune
"'I can’t be afraid to give up a 0-and-2 or a 1-and-2 hit,' said Bass. 'I think that’s in the back of my mind. So when I get ahead like that, I start trying to get the hitter to expand the zone and strike out on a pitch outside the zone.'"
Hundley still hitless, confidence still high - NCT
"Hundley said he isn't putting all of the team's struggles squarely on his shoulders. But it doesn't mean he's letting himself off the hook, either."
Top 5 Padres under 25 - Yahoo.com
"The San Diego Padres have one of the youngest rosters in the National League. The team has several quality players on the major league roster that are all under 25 years old."
Orlando Hudson talks about baseball being a "white mans" sport - CBS News
"Hudson, a two-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner, said baseball has an image problem among black youth in America."
Tom Krasovic talks about how Kevin Towers turned the DBacks around
"Inspired by what he believed the Diamondbacks could soon become, the former Padres general manager proposed having two of his future salaries become guaranteed only if the team won a lot more often."
Baseball offers another path to success for Clayton Richard - Chicken Friars
"Baseball allowed Richard to continue on with a career in professional sports. It wasn’t football, but it also wasn’t a back-up job early."
Highlights from the Bud Black press conference - Gaslamp Ball
"On Clayton Richard: Looked sharp. Velocity at the end was strong, which was a good sign. Would've liked to have the pitch back from Kemp obviously."
First week ramblings - RJs Fro
"I do like the purposed idea of putting the teams with the best records in the playoffs despite where they might have finished in a division setting. Sorry Padres!"

Top 5 second basemen in Padres History
During the 2012 season we’ll be looking at the top five players in Padre history at each position. The first rule: we will only consider the players’ time with the Padres, so Mike Piazza doesn’t count because he was only here for 1 year. I have set a completely arbitrary minimum of 200 games with the Padres. The other rule: players will be considered for their primary position...

Man in reporters' booth snags foul ball
A man in the front row of the reporters booth behind home plate at Petco Park caught a foul ball Tuesday night as the San Diego Padres hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks. Your browser does not support iframes. It happened in the top of the fourth inning as Diamondbacks third baseman Ryan Roberts hit a high foul ball behind home plate. The man, with an MLB.com laptop, stood up to...
Road, Sweep Road: Friars Fall In Rough Fashion at Chavez Ravine
After dropping the first two, the Padres were hoping to take one from the Dodgers on Sunday, but a call shrouded in controversy might have prevented them from doing so. Looking to put two runs in scoring position with a sac bunt, Jesus Guzman bunted the ball foul. Or so was the initial call by home plate umpire Dale Scott. But after the Dodgers whipped the ball around the infield...
Dodgers turn triple play in 9th against Padres
The Los Angeles Dodgers have turned a triple play in the ninth inning of their game against the San Diego Padres.
The bizarre play came with the score tied 4-all Sunday.
Chris Denorfia led off with a single against Javy Guerra. Chase Headley walked and Jesus Guzman squared to bunt the runners over, but the pitch came high and tight and hit Guzman's bat as he backed up from...
Daily Friar 4.15.12
What can I say about this Padres team? They are looking lousy, that about sums up everything. After scoring 8 runs Friday night and putting up a reasonable fight, they only put up 1 run on 2 hits last night. I wonder if the ball was on a tee would our guys be able to hit it? Again I saw way too many pitches being taken right down the middle. But they were swinging away at pitches...

Padres Prospects: Make or Break
It can be considered a make or break year for several San Diego Padres prospects. There is a relation between age and prospect status, as well as the time given to a prospect before the organization begins to sour on their “potential”. MadFriars.com looks at one position player and one pitcher from each full-season level.

Daily Friar 4.13.12
The Padres' homestand didn't go as planned. They dropped the rubber match last night against the Diamondbacks and went 2-5 to start the season. They hit the road this weekend starting a series with the Dodgers. Hopefully (and I have been using this word a lot lately) they will be able to break out of this funk while on the road. We get to face Aaron Harang, who we did well...
