Who is this team and what have they done with the Padres? Of all the teams that the Padres have had over the past 15 years, this was the one that was able to get the first sweep in Arizona. Kind of fitting actually since this is the same team that has been able to beat some of the giants in pitching in the majors. Another giant is coming into town tonight. The Cinicinnati Reds come into town, and tonight's matchup is nothing short of intriguing. Edinson Volquez will take the hill against Mat Latos. My hope is that Mat gets a little jittery and gives up the hits. But he has been solid lately. Volquez can beat his old club, but he needs to not be wild around the plate. It will be fun and hopefully the Padres can come out of it with their 6th win in a row. Friars to Face Old Friend in Tonight's Must-See Matchup

If you are a Padres fan and are not intrigued by tonight’s game you are either a liar or dead. This evening’s contest is chalk full of storylines and drama. The Reds will roll into town currently in a bit of a tailspin, having fallen out of first place after losing two straight to the Giants, having gone 5-5 in their last 10. Meanwhile the Padres are riding a season-high five...

Deadline Trade Candidate: Huston Street

As the calendar flipped to July the countdown to the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline began in earnest. With the addition of another wild card in each league causing more clubs to feel they are still “in it,” fewer clubs are officially in sell mode. Of course our beloved and eminently frustrating Padres are in that exclusive group of clubs that have more or less decided to...

Padres' Cashner strains muscle, probably will go on DL

Right-hander Andrew Cashner threw a scare into the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night in Arizona. In his second start back from Double-A San Antonio, Cashner was warming up for the third inning when he threw a pitch far wide of the plate and signaled for the trainers. The Padres had immediate fears. Cashner, who was acquired from the Cubs last winter in a trade for first baseman...

Rookie Yasmani Grandal hit a leadoff triple in the ninth against Logan Ondrusek (3-2), who then intentionally walked Yonder Alonso. O’Malley Group picked to purchase Padres

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that the O'Malley Group has been selected to purchase the San Diego Padres. The O'Malley Group will pay $800 million, including $200 million for a portion of the team’s equity stake in Fox Sports San Diego. If everything goes according to plan (does anything ever go according to plan?), the new owners will take over in August. “San...

Game 83: Reds 6, Padres 0

Good-royo made an appearance for the Reds last night and we finally saw the kind of game that a team like the Reds ought to be playing against a team like the Padres. Final score: Reds 6, Padres 0. Bronson Arroyo pitched a complete damn game, giving up all zero runs on 3 hits and 1 walk. He struck out 8, which is very unusual for him. He must have ordered what Mat Latos was having...
