ARLINGTON, Texas Nearly untouchable just five days ago, Yu Darvish was done in by a blister Sunday.
Darvish left after five innings against the Angels because of a blister on his right ring finger. It was Darvish's first start since retiring the first 26 batters against the Astros on Tuesday.
Rangers officials said the blister does not appear to be serious. Previously, Darvish had said he did not have problems with blisters when he pitched in Japan, but did have issues with the skin on his ring finger.
Darvish developed the blister in the sixth inning of that near-perfect game. On Sunday, he last 85 pitches, 50 of them strikes, before leaving the game.
Robbie Ross relieved Darvish, inheriting a 4-3 lead.
Sunday's start was much more of a struggle for Darvish than his previous outing in Houston. Mike Trout led off the game with a walk and Erick Aybar followed with a homer.
