After Travis Hafner got injured, the New York Yankees needed another DH.  So Cashman called Derek Jeter up from his rehab assignment to take his place. In Jeter’s first game back, he went 1-4 with 1 RBI.  In his first at bat of the season, he legged out an infield single.  He later came around to score as well. But what got most of the headlines about Jeter’s return was that he exited the game due to quad tightness. Jeter said that he started to feel the tightness around his 3rd at bat.  Jeter will go through an MRI tomorrow on the quad.  But Jeter did tell Girardi that he will be ready to go for tomorrow’s game so it cannot be that serious. The Yankees need Jeter’s bat in the lineup more than anything in the world.  Though Jeter may not be his old self and may not be able to hit over .300, his presence in the lineup gives the New York Yankees a whole different feel.  Especially because the Yankees have been missing the bats of Teixeira and Granderson almost all season.  It really is a miracle that the Yankees are still hanging around in the AL East race considering all of the injuries they have had. As much as people hate the Yankees around baseball, I think it is pretty hard to find people who don’t appreciate Derek Jeter.  Jeter is really special in the sense that almost every fan likes him, regardless of what team they cheer for.  Baseball is better when Derek Jeter is playing and we hope that he can make a full recovery and get back to his old self.
