Wade Miley is the last starter to win a game for the Arizona Diamondbacks, but that came nearly four weeks ago. The offense isn't providing much help. Miley may need to overcome the Diamondbacks' sluggish bats if he's going to help them win for just the second time in 10 tries on the road Monday night against the New York Mets. Miley (4-7, 4.55 ERA) allowed three runs in 6 2-3 innings of a 10-3 win at St. Louis on June 5, and that's the last time Arizona got a victory from a starter. The rotation has since gone 0-10 with a 5.15 ERA in 22 games, the majors' longest streak without a starter winning since San Diego went 25 straight from April 17-May 14, 2009. Those struggles continued over the weekend, with the starters compiling a 7.36 ERA while the Diamondbacks (42-39) were swept in a three-game series at Atlanta. Trevor Cahill was the culprit in Sunday's 6-2 loss, surrendering all of the Braves' runs in 4 1-3 innings. "We didn't really thro...

D-backs activate Putz from DL; Spruill optioned

The Diamondbacks activated closer J.J. Putz from the 15-day disabled list Saturday, a move that was expected with Putz having made several rehab appearances without a setback, and optioned pitcher Zeke Spruill to Triple-A Reno to clear a roster spot. Putz had been on the disabled list since leaving a May 7 game against the Dodgers with a right elbow strain. It was initially believed...

Trevor Cahill will turn it around

Jumping on the Diamondbacks rotation, and Trevor Cahill in particular, to blame for the team’s recent struggles is the popular thing to do right now. And truth be told, it’s perfectly acceptable. There’s a reason a starter hasn’t won in over three weeks. There’s a reason the bullpen is, more often than not, run into the ground by overuse. I’m here to tell you Cahill...

Rotation takes another hit as Cahill goes on DL

One day after the worst statistical month of his career came to an end, Diamondbacks starting pitcher Trevor Cahill was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip contusion. The injury is the same one that knocked him out of a June 19 game against the Marlins after one inning. Cahill took a line drive off his hip at the end of the first inning and warmed up for the second...

Putz reinstated, Spruill optioned to AAA

The Diamondbacks have found an answer for fans upset with Heath Bell‘s poor performance as closer, and it comes in the form of a healthy J.J. Putz. Putz was taken off the disabled list officially Saturday morning, making him available for the day game in Atlanta.

JJ Putz activated from DL by Diamondbacks

Closer J.J. Putz has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Sidelined since May 7 by a strained right elbow, Putz pitched four games during an injury rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Reno. He allowed one run and four hits in two innings with four strikeouts and three walks. Putz is 2-1 with a 4.26 ERA and five saves in nine chances with...

Corbin tries to halt D-backs' skid, earn 10th win

Despite pitching well, the Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin has thus far been denied in his bids for team history. The left-hander will try for a sixth time to improve to a franchise-best 10-0 on Tuesday night against the Mets. Corbin (9-0, 2.22 ERA) hasn't earned a win since June 2 despite posting a 2.55 ERA in his last five outings. He has also allowed two runs or fewer in...

Cahill hits the DL with hip contusion

It’s no secret Trevor Cahill was downright awful in the month of June, but at least now he can try to figure things out. The Diamondbacks placed him on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a hip contusion, stemming from the line drive he took against the Marlins.

Diamondbacks to activate J.J. Putz this weekend

The Arizona Diamondbacks are expected to activate reliever J.J. Putz from the disabled list this weekend, perhaps as soon as today, according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. Putz has been on the DL since May 8 while dealing with a strained elbow. It was determined that Putz wouldn’t require surgery, but it did take an extended period of time before the discomfort subsided...

Diamondbacks place Trevor Cahill on DL with hip contusion

June was an awful month for Arizona Diamondbacks starter Trevor Cahill, and July doesn't look any better. Cahill was placed on the 15-day DL with a hip contusion, with the news tweeted by the Diamondbacks' official feed on Monday afternoon. OFFICIAL: @Dbacks select RHP Chaz Roe from Triple-A Reno, place RHP Trevor Cahill on 15-day disabled list w/ right hip contusion...

D-backs to honor victims of wildfire

The Arizona Diamondbacks are going to wear a patch on their uniforms for the rest of the season honoring the 19 firefighters who died in the wildfire about 80 miles from Phoenix. The firefighters died Sunday night in Yarnell. During the four-game series against the New York Mets that began Monday night, the Diamondbacks will wear black bands on the right arm of their jerseys to...

Mets, Diamondbacks honor 19 fallen firefighters at Citi Field

During Monday night's Diamondbacks-Mets game at Citi Field, the two clubs had a jersey hanging in their respective dugouts with the name of Yarnell and the number 19 on the back. This was to honor the 19 members of the Yarnell, Ariz. fire department who died while fighting a wildfire Sunday night. The jerseys were shown on the stadium's video board during a moment of silence...

Mets 5, Diamondbacks 4(13)

Andrew Brown hit a two-run single with two outs in the 13th inning and the New York Mets put together a pair of late rallies to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 on Monday night, handing the NL West leaders their fourth straight loss. Hot-hitting Josh Satin tied it with an RBI single in the ninth off Arizona closer J.J. Putz. Cody Ross led off the 13th with a homer against David...

Big inning dooms Diamondbacks

Up and down, up and down. The season continues to roll on. Saturday’s game was a bit of a microcosm of the Diamondbacks season in many respects. Poor starting pitching, some clutch hitting, a bullpen letdown. All that was missing was a furious comeback as the Diamondbacks fell hard to Atlanta, 11-5.

Game Preview: Diamondbacks vs Mets

The Mets start a series with the Diamondbacks tonight fresh off dropping a series with the Nationals. Yesterday the wheels (really no pun intended, I say this a lot) fell off for the Mets as they just couldn’t get anything positive going. The game ended with Recker pitching, which is, well a white flag. Anyway, Shaun Marcum pitches for the Mets tonight as he faces Wade Miley. Marcum...
