It’s not a good time to be a pitcher for the Dodgers. With Zack Greinke and Chris Capuano already on the shelf with injuries, you thought things couldn’t get much worse for the Blue Crew until word came out that Chad Billingsley had to be placed on the 15 day DL with elbow soreness. That’s terrible news for Billingsley, in particular, because he was making an attempt to come back from a partially torn Ulnar Collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow without undergoing reconstructive surgery. This, as you may already know, is the ligament that’s repaired during a Tommy John surgery that typically requires at least a full year prior to a full recovery. Billingsley took a calculated risk by not having surgery on the elbow with the hopes that he could rehabilitate and strengthen the elbow to help take pressure off the ligamentous structures to facilitate tissue healing.
