GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Carl Crawford got two hits and two RBIs in his second spring training appearance for the Dodgers, and Josh Beckett was scratched because of flu as Los Angeles lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 Monday. After going 0 for 3 Sunday against Milwaukee in his delayed debut, Crawford again was the designated hitter. He lined a single to left in the third and singled in two runs in the fifth with a drive to center, both against Randall Delgado. Crawford is coming off left elbow surgery on Aug. 23, two days before the Dodgers obtained him from Boston. He was slowed by nerve irritation in the elbow on March 1. Beckett, acquired from the Red Sox in the same trade, threw 76 pitches over six innings in a simulated game rather than face the Diamondbacks. Dodgers starter Josh Wall allowed Eric Hinske's RBI single in the second. Adam Eaton hit a two-run triple off Peter Moylan in the third and Paul Goldschmidt had a solo homer off Paco Rodriguez in the fourth.

Crawford feels ready for Opening Day

GLENDALE, AZ Don't tell Carl Crawford he can't do somethingunless you like to be proven wrong. Crawford made his first Spring Training appearance of the Cactus League season, going 0-3 in an 11-1 Dodgers' split squad win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Camelback Ranch. Afterwards, he said he thinks he'll prove his detractors mistaken and be in the lineup on Opening...

Podcast: 'Dugout Blues' episode 28 - Dodgers, Ryu, Crawford, Puig, Seager

On this episode of "Dugout Blues," Jared Massey (Dodger Diamond) and I give a brief recap of our spring training trip. Don't worry, we'll have a more in-depth recap later this week or next Tuesday. I got to see Hyun-Jin Ryu pitch in person. Aside from his shaky first inning, he was nails. It was his best performance of the spring. We also talk about Carl ...

Matt Kemp: Yasiel Puig might have more power than me

Yasiel Puig has been torching the ball this spring and he has made several believers in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ clubhouse. One of his biggest supporters is Matt Kemp, who thinks the 22-year-old Cuban outfielder will be up with the big club before too long. Kemp recently raved about Puig, comparing the 6-foot-3, 245-pound outfielder to Bo Jackson. “I think he’s way stronger...

Ramirez leaves WBC with injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a new injury concern. Hanley Ramirez, slated to be their Opening Day shortstop, left Tuesday's World Baseball Classic after five innings, apparently because of a jammed right thumb. Ramirez, as the Dominican Republic's third baseman, sustained the injury while diving for a ball. Veteran Miguel Tejada replaced him to begin the top of the sixth...

Dee Gordon in a nutshell: Blazing speed, three mistakes, and comedy all on one play

Why hasn’t Dee Gordon emerged as a useful MLB player yet, right? Well one play from yesterday’s game sort of summed up why he’s having so much difficulty. On a clean single to left-center from Carl Crawford (yes, really), Dee Gordon freezes like it’s hit to the shortstop or something, then completely turns his left shoulder to look at the ball and identify the center fielder...

Hanley Ramirez suffers jammed thumb, leaves WBC game

Depending on the extent of the injury, there may. Be more fuel thrown on the "players shouldn't participate in the World Baseball Classic" argument. The Dodgers' starting third baseman, Hanley Ramirez has left tonight's WBC Championship after jamming his thumb. The extent of the injury is not yet known, but Ramirez will be evaluated by doctors from both the...

TJ Simers had a mini-stroke and the Dodgers helped save him

Los Angeles Times columnist TJ Simers recently suffered what he called a “mini-stroke” while in Arizona to cover spring training, and he apparently can thank the Los Angeles Dodgers for helping to save him. Simers, who is known for his humor, negativity, and confrontational style, revealed the news in a column that featured his usual amounts of sarcasm. As best as I could tell...

Dodgers 7, Athletics 1

Yasiel Puig had a two-run homer and a triple among his four hits Tuesday, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics. The 22-year-old Cuban outfielder who signed a seven-year, $42 million contract with the Dodgers in July homered in the first - his third of spring training - a towering shot over fellow Cuban and A's left fielder Yoenis Cespedes...

Dodgers rumors: Chris Capuano, Aaron Harang likely to be traded

The Los Angeles Dodgers are likely to trade either right-hander Aaron Harang or left-hander Chris Capuano, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal notes that the Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers are among the teams that have scouted Harang this spring. He says there are a total of four teams that have been eyeing the pair of veterans throughout the...

Cactus roundup: Crawford hitless in debut

DODGERS 11, BREWERS 1 GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Carl Crawford made his first appearance in a Dodgers' uniform -- a green one at that -- going 0 for 3 as a Los Angeles split squad beat the Milwaukee Brewers 11-1 Sunday. Los Angeles obtained Crawford from the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 25, two days after he had surgery on his left elbow. Crawford had not played in a game since Aug...
