PLAYERS: Matt Kemp
TEAMS: Los Angeles Dodgers
Matt Kemp looked a little rusty while DH'ing for Rancho Cucamonga last night in his first minor league rehab game since injuring his ankle.  The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar is likely going to return to the Dodgers' active roster next week, but the team is trying to get him as much action as possible before Rancho Cucmonga's season ends on Monday. Austin Laymance of MLB.com says Kemp did not get a real chance to test his ankle as he only ran to first base four times.  He struck out once.  In none of his at-bats did he really get the opportunity to make a turn hard at first base.  However, Kemp felt like he was quickly regaining his comfort at the plate. "I got more comfortable as the game went on," Kemp said. "I knew I wasn't going to come out feeling super good. But I hit some balls hard and that's all you can ask for." Kemp will get his first test in the field today.  He will be starting in the outfield for Rancho Cucamonga and will be tasked with really putting pressure on his ankle for the first time.  Kemp has been on the DL for quite some time with this ankle sprain, so this will be a significant step forward. Kemp uncomfortable at bat, might not return Monday

After center fielder Matt Kemp went hitless in his first eight minor league at-bats -- with one ball out of the infield -- Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly said Kemp might be asked to continue his rehabilitation assignment beyond Sunday. Kemp is expected to be the designated hitter for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday and Sunday. Mattingly said Kemp has not reported any discomfort...

Yasiel Puig responds to benching as Los Angeles Dodgers cruise to victory

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie outfielder Yasiel Puig (photo credit: Gary A. Vasquez/USA TODAY-Sports) After playing only four innings and being benched in the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday afternoon game against the Chicago Cubs, Yasiel Puig responded with four hits, moving his multi-hit game tally to 33, and also added two stolen bases for good measure on Friday night as the Dodgers...

Yasiel Puig – Immature Action or Growing Opportunity?

CHECK OUT OUR NEW SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SPORTS SITE WWW.SPORTSREPORTSOCAL.COM Since Yasiel Puig’s arrival in Los Angeles, he has been nothing short of amazing, but as with every “superstar,” there is always some sort of baggage that we seem to overlook.  Superstars have a longer rope than the average athlete but Puig’s rope might have just become a bit shorter.  On...

Yasiel Puig Situation Handled Perfectly by Don Mattingly, Who Really Had No Choice But to Bench Polarizing Slugger

Don Mattingly had no choice. Mattingly’s handling of Cuban phenom Yasiel Puig has been one of the most polarizing topics of the baseball season, with the most recent buzz coming Wednesday when Mattingly benched Puig before the fifth inning of a game against the Cubs. Wednesday’s decision once again opened up the debate over whether or not Mattingly is pulling the right strings...

Yasiel Puig pulled for not being ready in the field

getty images Los Angeles Dodgers Yasiel Puig was pulled from the fifth inning of Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs because he “wasn’t ready on defense” for every pitch. The 22-year-old told reporters he understood manager Don Mattingly’s decision to pull him from the game. Puig said Mattingly pulled him because he wasn’t ready on defense for every pitch. Puig...

Benching Puig tough love from Don

This was coming. And frankly, what happened Wednesday might be the best thing for Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly had talked to Puig, his coaches had talked to Puig and, in recent days, a number of the team's veterans had talked to Puig. Their message still was not getting through. So, Mattingly yanked Puig at the start of the fifth...

Dodgers' Yasiel Puig benched, not injured

During yesterday's game, Yasiel Puig was pulled in the fifth inning by manager Don Mattingly.  There was some initial concern that he may have been hurt, but that was not the case.  Instead, Puig was benched for disciplinary reasons. According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, Mattingly benched Puig for "effort," but neither he nor anyone else on the team would elaborate...

Yasiel Puig benched for not sliding, loafing in outfield (Video)

Yasiel Puig has been an outstanding player for the Los Angeles Dodgers since being called up in June, but he has also been immature and committed many small mistakes. His teammates have called him out for his poor fundamentals, such as not hitting the cutoff man on throws or making baserunning mistakes. On Wednesday, Dodgers […]

Puig, Gonzalez lead Dodgers

Yasiel Puig had four hits and two stolen bases after getting benched in his previous game, and Adrian Gonzalez hit a pair of two-run homers to help the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 9-2 on Friday night. The teams met for the first time since a four-game series at San Diego in June, when the Dodgers lost the first two and fell a season-worst 9 1/2 games behind Arizona...

Matt Kemp still isn’t comfortable, may not return on Monday

Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp made his second rehab start with Rancho Cucamonga yesterday but still doesn’t feel comfortable yet reports Bill Shaikin. Kemp has been sidelined since July 22 with a sprained ankle. The hope was that Kemp would make a few rehab starts and be ready to return to the Dodgers after this weekend but it sounds like Kemp will need some more time. He is 0...

Yasiel Puig and Tony LaRussa face off

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig and former MLB manager Tony LaRussa went head to head on Thursday but not in the way you think. The two faced off in a game of ping pong at a tournament hosted by Clayton Kershaw to benefit his nonprofit foundation. From the photos it looks like these two were really into it too. Hopefully LaRussa gave him a little advice about baseball as...

Dodgers sign Edinson Volquez

Once highly touted pitcher Edinson Volquez was released by the San Diego Padres on Tuesday but found a new home pretty quickly. Last night the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Volquez to a major league contract. To me this looks like it’s more of a depth move as Volquez has been absolutely dreadful posting a 6.01 ERA over 142 innings pitched. He’ll most likely be used to give some...

Dodgers to sign Edinson Volquez

Shortly after the Padres requested release waivers on Edinson Volquez, he already had two teams pursuing him. It turns out that those two teams were the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers and one of those clubs has already agreed to terms with him. The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to sign 30-year old pitcher Edinson Volquez to a major-league contract, according...
