PLAYERS: Matt Kemp
TEAMS: Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed center fielder Matt Kemp on the disabled list earlier this week with a shoulder injury. The team has decided to keep Kemp from swinging a bat for a week while he recovers from an irritated shoulder joint, according to Austin Laymance of MLB.com. Kemp participated in a light workout on Thursday, but manager Don Mattingly told reporters that the outfielder won’t pick up a bat until after the All-Star break. "I'm sure he's capable of swinging a bat, but they want to let this thing totally die down with the All-Star break coming," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. "We've got this period of time, so let the medication work, shut him down for seven days and then start." Kemp has dealt with shoulder injuries in the past, but the Dodgers say his current issues are unrelated to the offseason surgery he underwent to repair a torn labrum and frayed rotator cuff. He experienced pain in his shoulder on a swing and miss last Friday, and after spending the weekend considered day to day, Los Angeles placed him on the DL on Monday. The shoulder could be one of the reasons why Kemp’s production has been so down this season. Over 246 plate appearances, he’s only hit .254/.309/.357 with four home runs. Yasiel Puig, the Non-All-Star

I don’t often write these sort of unfocused think-pieces. (Well, I happen to think that I don’t, but many of my commenters undoubtedly disagree.) Anyway, I’m thinking about Yasiel Puig today.
