PLAYERS: AJ Ellis
TEAMS: Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed catcher A.J. Ellis on the 15-day disabled list yesterday with a slight oblique injury. Ellis may not have been transferred to the DL if the Dodgers didn’t need a roster spot to replace injured pitcher Hyun-jin Ryu, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. Los Angeles didn’t think Ryu – who was scratched from yesterday’s start due to a bruised foot – required a stint on the 15-day DL. However, they needed to create a roster spot for someone to fill in for him yesterday. Ellis sustained a strained oblique on Wednesday, but he was basically healed by yesterday. However, catcher is a position of depth with the Dodgers, as they also have Ramon Hernandez and Tim Federowicz on the roster. As a result, Ellis was placed on the DL to make room on the roster for spot starter Matt Magill. Prior to hitting the DL, Ellis had hit .262/.364/.369 with seven doubles, one triple and two home runs over 168 plate appearances. Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?
