The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed left-handed starting
pitcher Chris Capuano on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf
muscle, according to Bill Shaikin of The Los Angeles Times.
#Dodgers: Capuano DL, Federowicz recalled.
— Bill Shaikin (@BillShaikin) April 17, 2013
To replace Capuano on the roster, the Dodgers have called up
catcher Tim Federowicz from Triple-A.
Capuano sustained his calf injury during his first start of
the 2013 season. The southpaw was filling in for injured Dodgers starter Zack
Greinke. He injured his left calf while attempting to cover first base. After remaining
in the game, the veteran was removed the next inning.
Capuano will undergo an MRI today to determine the extent of
the damage to his calf. Los Angeles will slide fellow veteran left-hander Ted
Lilly into the rotation spot formerly occupied by Capuano. Since the start of
the season, the Dodgers have now lost Greinke and Capuano to injury, while
veteran Aaron Harang was traded.
