Outfielder Yasiel Puig, who signed a $42 million, seven-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers this summer, is recovering from a staph infection in the back of his right elbow. The team said Tuesday that the Cuban slugger is expected to make a full recovery in three to five weeks. The infection, which is non-MRSA, involved the bursa of Puig's elbow and didn't invade the elbow joint. He initially was treated with oral antibiotics, which didn't work, the team said. His elbow was washed out on Sept. 18 and then immobilized to allow the incision to heal and remain closed. Puig's elbow will remain immobilized until Oct. 15. He will stay at the Dodgers' Camelback Ranch spring training facility in Glendale, Ariz., until he regains full strength. He is expected to play in the Arizona Fall League, although his prospects of making the big-league roster remain unknown. Puig defected from Cuba in early June after several failed attempts. He was considered the top prospect in the country's premier league. The contract Puig signed is the largest ever for a Cuban amateur.

So the Arizona Fall League started yesterday, and if you don’t already know what’s going on with that, you can check out the Dodgers players who are there in this article I wrote two months ago.One glaring difference between that list and what you’ll actually see or hear about is the absence of Yasiel Puig, as he’ll be missing the entirety of the AFL due to a staph infection...

Prospect news: Lee among SL's best, Puig out for AFL, first two AFL games

Zach Lee, who was ranked as the fifth-best prospect in the California League last week, was tabbed as the Southern League's 13th-best prospect, according to Baseball America. The Dodgers should seriously entertain re-signing Brandon League

When the Dodgers traded for Brandon League, I wasn't impressed. League came from Seattle as about as mediocre as one could be. Yet, his performance as a Dodger was surprising and actually, good. League pitched so well with the Dodgers that I wouldn't mind him being re-signed. The Dodgers traded Leon Landry and Logan Bawcom to get League, which I wasn't happy...

Left Side Of Infield Still A Concern For Dodgers

The Dodgers entered the offseason a little sooner than they expected, but they have already hit the ground running in terms of their offseason planning. While they must await the results of medical exams on both Matt Kemp and Chad Billingsley, they have a pretty good idea of how they expect to attack the offseason, and that is to get after starting pitching. That is a good goal —...

Victorino deal looks good for the Phillies

The Phillies dealt center fielder Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Dodgers in July. The deal was supposed to help the Dodgers into the post-season and the Phillies to stock-pile some young prospects. It didn't work so well for the Dodgers, but the Phillies have reason to be happy.
