Meanwhile, back at Langley whoops, sorry, I meant at Dodger Stadium the Dodgers announced that Ted Lilly was going on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation and that they had called up reliever Mike Antonini from triple-A Albuquerque.Which is not to say Antonini will take Lillys scheduled start on Tuesday; he will not. Stay tuned for Tuesdays move shhh, still unannounced when the Dodgers will call up right-hander Nathan Eovaldi from double-A Chattanooga to start Tuesday.I dont really have one right now, said Manager Don Mattingly about a starter for Tuesday.Of course, he said this on Monday. You know, the day before hell need one.I dont know if I should really be talking about tomorrows starter since hes not in the building, Mattingly said.OK, theres that. So Antonini is up as long-man relief in case Aaron Harang goes belly-up early Monday against the Brewers. Then Antonini could be sent immediately back to the minors without having made his major-league debut, just as happened to him in April. It could be the same situation, Antonini said. Its uncertain how long Lilly will be out, though the Dodgers are hopeful hell be able to return when eligible June 8. Lilly said he was given a cortisone injection and anti-inflammatories, but did not have an MRI.Im going to throw on Thursday or Friday, and if I feel better, well keep going, Lilly said. But its hard to make any projections at this point.Lilly, 36, said the shoulder had been bothering him since his May 18 start against St. Louis. At that point, Lilly was 5-0 with a 1.79 ERA. He said given his early success, the injury was particularly disappointing. For sure, you get off to a good start, you have expectations of trying to make the All-Star team, Lilly said. This is definitely going to make that a very difficult thing to do.But I dont know what else I could have done differently to try and prevent it. I feel like Im doing everything I can to take care of myself and prevent injuries. But part of this game is sometimes theres not a whole lot you can do it.Lilly said he had the injury previously in 2009, missing a few starts with the Cubs. He went 12-9 with a 3.10 ERA that season. It sounds like something hes kind of caught early, Mattingly said. He said, 'In the past, I would have kept going and tried to throw another game with it and really set myself backwards. I think the fact that Teddy felt like he caught this thing before it got any worse is hopefully a good sign for us.Antonini was 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA in Albuquerque. Eovaldi went 1-2 with a 3.09 ERA in six starts for the Dodgers last season.Mattingly also would not discuss Lilly's health or Eovaldi's status on Sunday. The only reason for all the hush-hush stuff is if it would handicap General Manager Ned Colletti's position to acquire another starter, whether it's free agent Roy Oswalt or via trade.--Steve Dilbeck

Los Angeles Dodgers: An $85 million lesson from the Orioles?

The signings of Matt Kemp($180 million) and the Orioles Adam Jones($85 million) have set the benchmark for what it will take to sign Andre Ethier(pictured) long-term. Several baseball pundits were debating the Baltimore Orioles recent decision to sign outfielder Adam Jones to a six year, $85 million deal. On one hand, some felt the Orioles paid too much for a player with a lifetime...

Kemp homers in rehab start; due back Tuesday

Yeah, it kinda looks like Matt Kemp is ready to return from the disabled list. Kemp hit his second home run in as many rehab starts Monday, and is now scheduled to rejoin the team in time to start against the Brewers on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. Of course, there is that legendary thin Albuquerque air, but Kemp went three for four Monday for the triple-A Isotopes with a homer...

A.J. Ellis hosts 'Between Two Palm Trees'

Is the play of A.J. Ellis not enough for you to love him? Okay, how about his sense of humor then? Via Dodger Thoughts Seriously though, if you don’t vote A.J. Ellis to the All-Star Game, I hate you. If you don’t get what A.J. Ellis is doing here, I also hate you, but Google

Despite loss, Kemp happy to be back on field

LOS ANGELES -- It was quite the first inning Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. Dodger centerfielder Matt Kemp -- last season's N.L. He then witnessed a cascade of boos when his friend, Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, stepped up to the plate. Braun, who had a 50-game suspension...

Dodgers Announce Vin Scully Bobblehead Giveaway on August 30 (Photo)

The impossible has happened! The Dodgers have announced that they will be giving away Vin Scully bobbleheads later this season, in honor of their Hall of Fame broadcaster. To try to capitalize on Scully's popularity, the Dodgers announced that they will not be selling single tickets to that date's game, either. Instead, fans must buy 10-game "miniplan" packages...

Freddie Roach to throw out 1st pitchers at Dodgers game on Wednesday

Though he has lived in Los Angeles since 1992, Freddie Roach has never been to Dodger Stadium.  But that Ripkenesque 20-year streak comprising over 3,000 games will end tomorrow night when Roach takes the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, at approximately 6:57 p.m. PT, before the Dodgers battle the Milwaukee Brewers. Roach, a five-time Trainer of the Year, and...

Hot Dodgers Host Slumping Brewers

By The Los Angeles Dodgers have been doing just fine, thank you very much, without MVP candidate Matt Kemp. So far. The Milwaukee Brewers, on the other hand, apparently miss Prince Fielder very much. So it's two teams headed in opposite directions at the moment and with very tight MLB odds as LA hosts Milwaukee for a four-game series...

Bigger Surprise: Orioles or Dodgers?

As I’m writing this, the Dodgers and Orioles are both in first place, with neither team expected to make a major splash in the off-season (though our very own Thomas Wayne did predict a major improvement for the O’s this season. The Orioles currently sit at 29-19 (though they’re losing to the Blue Jays as I write). The bats have been there, with 5 regulars posting OPS+’s...
