Dodgers manager Don Mattingly mostly affirmed Monday night that Ricky Nolasco will start Tuesday's Game 4 of the National League Championship Series for Los Angeles. But it might be wise to continue to refer to Nolasco as a "probable" starter. Mattingly stopped just short of issuing an ironclad guarantee that Nolasco will start. "As of right now" Mattingly said after Los Angeles bested St. Louis 3-0 in Game 3 of the NLCS "Ricky Nolasco will be pitching tomorrow." Before Game 3 Mattingly sounded prepared to bypass Nolasco in favor of Zack Greinke who has superior credentials if the Dodgers absorbed a loss that would push them to the brink of elimination. The obvious risk was that Greinke if summoned for Game 4 would be working on three days' rest one fewer than usual. "I would say yes today's results may have something to do [with it]" Mattingly admitted. This has become a familiar situation for Nolasco 30. The Dodgers replace...

Dodgers stay with Nolasco for Game 4 vs. Cardinals

The Dodgers are sticking with starter Ricky Nolasco for Game 4 of the NL championship series against St. Louis. Manager Don Mattingly says it's a tough situation for Nolasco because he hasn't pitched since Sept. 29. As a result, Mattingly says Nolasco's pitch count won't get too high, although he says the right-hander is capable of throwing deep into the game. The...

Dodgers stay with Nolasco for NLCS Game 4

As a result, Mattingly says Nolasco's pitch count won't get too high, although he says the right-hander is capable of throwing deep...

Dodgers plan to bring Mattingly back as manager

LOS ANGELES -- Well, Don Mattingly bashers, get ready for some bad news. Donnie Baseball will apparently be back to manage the Dodgers in 2014 -- and possibly beyond. Despite a 4-2 loss to St. Louis that gave the Cardinals a 3-1 lead in the National League Championship Series, a source has confirmed it's "100 percent" sure that Mattingly will be back -- even if his...

Report: Don Mattingly’s Job Is Safe Regardless Of NLCS Outcome

Such a stark difference from earlier in the season. Rumors of Don Mattingly being fired used to be a daily occurrence prior to the Dodgers post All-Star Break heroics. Now, it seems that the Dodgers have no immediate plans on letting Don go. Ken Gurnick of MLB.com talked with a source who says Mattingly will be back no matter the outcome in the NLCS. Mattingly’s contract includes...

Mattingly has no issue with Dodger celebrations

LOS ANGELES The Dodgers have a message for the St. Louis Cardinals, who were offended Monday night over the exuberant celebrations by Yasiel Puig and Adrian Gonzalez in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series. They don't plan to stop.Manager Don Mattingly came to the defense of his players after Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright said Gonzalez was "doing some Mickey...

On the count of four, let's see those Cardinal bats WAKE UP

LOS ANGELES -- If the pattern holds, the Cardinals' offense will break through Tuesday night. That would be the every-fourth-game pattern, of course. Think about it. The Cardinals opened the postseason with a nine-run outburst against the Pirates. The bats then turned cold for three games. Just in time for Game 5 of the NL Division Series, they woke up and scored six runs....

2013 NLCS Game 3: Dodgers 2, Cardinals 4 – Dodgers on the brink

Chris Withrow’s face sort of sums it up, no? Ricky Nolasco was far from perfect, but the offense was once again the culprit as the Dodgers fell, 2-4, in Game 4 of the 2013 NLCS to put them one loss from elimination. At least the controversies didn’t affect the fun on the field.

Dodgers can't find magic, pushed to playoff brink

After a season filled with dramatic comebacks and game-breaking hits, the Los Angeles Dodgers had no big finishes left for Game 4 of the NL championship series. And the Dodgers' inability to do the improbable left them on the brink of playoff elimination. After the Cardinals scored three runs in the third inning off Ricky Nolasco, St. Louis made its lead stand up all the way...

AccuScore Game Preview: Cardinals AT Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers hope to even the series at two games apiece today as they get set to once again host the St. Louis Cardinals at Dodgers Stadium. As of now, Ricky Nolasco is set to take the mound. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly suggested that had Los Angeles lost Game 3, they would have started Zack Greinke in Game 4 on three days rest. With that said, it seems that going with...

MLB Game Picks - Tuesday: October 15, 2013

The Dodgers surprised me last night. Hyun-jin Ryu was terrific, but that really should not be a surprise. He pitched well at home all season and the Cardinals simply do not hit lefties well and have not all season. And I was surprised that Hanley Ramirez played and played well. The biggest surprise was that someone (Mattingly?) got through to Yasiel Puig to get him to settle down...

Dodgers plan to bring Don Mattingly back for next year

The Dodgers intend to bring Don Mattingly back to manage the team next year people familiar with the situation say. Mattingly's lack of a signed contract for 2014 combined with some much-debated postseason strategy decisions have fueled media speculation that the team could possibly make a change. A return always seemed more likely than not after the team went on an almost unprecedented...

Dugout Digest - one more step

There were two games yesterday, and the results of both were pretty telling. The Red Sox beat the Tigers 1-0, but Justin Verlander made just one mistake on the hill for Detroit. The Cardinals beat the Dodgers 4-2, and Ricky Nolasco really had just one bad inning. But hey, when your opponent isn't making mistakes, or is getting out of tough innings, one mistake or one bad inning...

Dodgers stay alive, optimistic after forcing Game 6

LOS ANGELES -- Usually when a team is trailing in the playoffs 3-1 and they win Game 5 to stay alive, the overriding emotion is relief. Unless you're the extremely optimistic Los Angeles Dodgers. The NL West champs used four homers, two by Adrian Gonzalez, to beat St. Louis 6-4 and cut the Cardinals lead to 3-2 in the National League Championship Series. Zack Greinke went...

YASIEL PUIG TRIPLE ENERGIZES DODGERS AS L.A. GETS BACK IN NLCS!

Dodger manager Don Mattingly says Puig plays with youthful enthusiasm of a little leaguer but with major ability. The Los Angeles Dodgers bounced back in the NLCS at home with a solid pitching performance from left hander HYUN-JIN RYU and the return of HANLEY RAMIREZ to the lineup but it was the magnetic exploits of energetic rook YASIEL PUIG that ignited the Dodger Stadium crowd...
